As an update, they have been adjusting his meds and finally got him to the point they felt like it was possible to pull him out of the chemical induced coma. That sedative was some powerful stuff! Took him just about a full day to come out of it, although there are still some artifacts working their way out. They watched closely for days - hooked up to the most inticate eeg I'd ever seen, like a head full of technicolor dreadlocks - and no sign of seizure.

They'd changed his chemo and started on some really hard stuff though - two at a time. The thought was that if they didn't go at it as aggressively as possible, the growth would out-pace the chemo (what was happening before) and he just wouldn't make it. So now he's actually awake and off the ventilator, and the same guy he was before, although missing some sight in one eye.

    This, literally, is miracle stuff!

And just for reference, the nurse said that when someone is in a chemical induced coma, they are "just out" so they can't hear or feel anything. Except his daughter-in-law said differently, and that hearing was the last thing to go.
He heard everything, and could quote several things we'd said to him.
The reason I bring this up is because someone has said to me "I wish I could have told her" relating to the same circumstance. Always try. I don't know if it's always is this way, but I'm 110% positive that it was this time. When one of us would talk to him, we could see brain activity on that eeg, so we kept reassuring. Please don't ever believe it's too late.

All glory and praise to our Lord! Prayers are heard, and He does watch over us!

Tearing up a little here. I'm very, very happy to read this.

God bless and I hope he continues to get better.

    Bravo,
Never underestimate what the body can sense! The Drs. always tell us this stuff, but none of them have been in the chemical induced coma. Hearing and touch are the two senses that stay with us the longest. Prayers to all!

Never stop fighting, not ever. If it does go bad look after and love those kids. I've adopted two myself and love them so much. Expect the best and plan for the worst, but never, ever stop fighting.

    An update for you guys.....

He's surprised most everyone here, including me. The professionals - neurologist, oncologist, occupational and speech therapists, etc, etc - all say that he's doing much better than he has any right to. Literally.

He's not doing better day by day, he's doing better hour by hour. They eased up on the steroids, and that made a huge difference. He needed them to shrink the swelling in his noggin, the way the neurologist expained it sounded like seizures are a lot like a traumatic brain injury. The problem was that he couldn't sleep with the level of steroids he was getting. I figured it was because he was under so long...... Not like I'm driving in my own lane talking about that.

After a solid night of sleep he started really coming around. We've been walking a lot, so they'd DX the heparin injections in the belly, and that's exactly what happened. Between yesterday and today he's gone from big effort in walking short distances with a walker to walking long distances carrying (not using) a cane.

It looks like he's likely down 50% on eyesight, and that might be permanent. And he's a long ways from "right", but he's making a really strong come-back. They were hoping to boot him out of this place tomorrow, but it looks like Friday now is the "hopeful schedule" instead..... Time will tell.

On the good side, the chow at this place is actually decent ;-) Not on my diet, but if I can eat it for over a week without getting tired of it, it must be pretty good. They're sure stuffing a bunch of it in him, and I'm stuffing more after they get done. Got some good pictures too - it's sad that it takes something like this to get the family together. Being spread to the four corners of the world is sometimes problematic ha!

And speaking of which, I'm getting pressured to start doing that whole facebook thing. If I eventually collapse under the massive weight of peer pressure, I'll make sure to send out some friends requests to you guys.
Once I figure out how to.
Or get a child to do it for me.

May the Lord bless you all as I've seen His blessing here!

Do you really think we want laws to be observed? We want them broken. There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. When there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be crimes that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants law-abiding citizens? Pass the kind of laws that can’t be observed, enforced, or objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers.

You won't have to worry about sending out a friend request to me on FB.......

Besides, I already consider you a friend.

We'll keep praying for him....hope he gets out of the hospital soon.

Wow! B., he must be stubborn like me and really hate being in the hospital. Really Happy that he is improving in major steps. All our best to your family and continued prayers.
I dislike FB but do have an account. Just make one of those kids help you set the privacy settings to only include Family and Friends for everything. And be careful what you 'Like' on it as it will show up in your Timeline, also remember any pictures posted to FB is technically now their property and never goes away even if you delete your account. They will still continue to appear in other peoples Timelines.

Yeah, he's for sure as rugged of a guy as they come - but some of the ruggedness falls off after the first 50 years. So we're playing "musical rooms" with his family to minimize how much he has to contend with stairs. Until we can push a wall into the garage and put a shower where a half-bath is now. Luckily for me there's a couple of carpenters in the family close here, should go quick (and real cheap) I hope ;-)

And I hear you on that FB thing - I think the thing is just evil myself. But I'm being coerced, mostly for the skype-type thing that's in there. But that's not my lane to talk in either ha!

Thank you guys, I do believe in the power of prayer, and the power of prayer together being multiplied!
