    Fluting the 7.62x39 barrel

Has anyone tried doing this? Any problems with this? Anything I should watch out for? I searched the forum but came up empty.

A truth’s initial commotion is directly proportional to how deeply the lie was believed. When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic.

Sorry I don't know but you definitely got my attention. I want to find out about this as well.

Knowledge is power. I would like to know as well. I vaguely remember though someone "saying" because of the diameter of the 7.62 bore and the diameter of the barrel itself it is not possible to flute or if you did it would not make much difference in the weight.

I don't know that I'd try it at home with a dremel, but if you pick a top-notch gunsmith-machinist operation like ADCO, they'll know the safety minimums and won't flute the barrel if it makes it too thin.

BTW, while they don't have software for semi-auto barrels, you can play around with this spreadsheet on the Lilja website to see how much weight fluting removes from a standard rifle barrel:
