    7.62x39 Micro barrel lengths

OK, with storm clouds on the horizon I decided to snag one of Kermit's factory-fresh XCRs, in 7.62x39. And, since I'm getting into a new chambering I know I'll eventually get a Micro in 7.62x39 as well (if they don't get legislated out of existence). I'd go the custom barrel route, and was wondering if anyone has monkeyed around with 7.62x39 enough that they can tell me the maximum barrel length that will work in a Micro. For reference, I have a 10" Zastava AK, and from shooting that I don't think I want to go any shorter on an XCR in the same caliber.

Robarms lists the Micro as having a 7.5 barrel, however they note in their 2012 "catalog" (which they sent me with my XCR for some reason) that standard and mini barrel lengths will work although the gas system will be visible.
What is the issue with the 10in? Also, why get a micro if you're going 10 or more?

    Three reasons:

    1. Weight savings. The XCR is not a light gun, and for something I'd use for potential home defense, etc., I want the lighter weight and better balance that comes with the shorter upper receiver and gas system, while maintaining the ballistic advantage of a barrel in the 10" range. (7.5" is, IMO, too short for 7.62x39.)

    2. Suppressor compatibility. Some suppressors, such as Spikes Tactical and OPS, Inc., use an alignment collar that sits a couple inches behind the muzzle/barrel threads. This two-point attachment system is stronger and maintains better alignment than a suppressor that just screws onto the end of the barrel. It also permits a shorter overall suppressed weapon for a given barrel length, since the suppressor overlaps the barrel. However, the Micro with a 7.5" barrel does not extend far enough past the gas block to permit use of one of these suppressors. I plan to order a Spikes Tactical MRS-2 for use with 7.62x39 and .300 BLK (if it ever makes it to production).

    3. I really like to monkey with stuff, and this gives me an outlet. ;D
