Which barrell contour (heavy or light) for 7.62 conversion kit?

I am converting my XCR-L in 223 to 7.62. Is there any reason why I would need a heavy barrell contour?

Thank you in advance for all information.

No. From what I have seen from posts on here, ther hasn't been any funtional difference than maybe the extra weight to the front.

Like Merlin said. The contour might matter in sustained automatic fire.

It'd have to be more "sustained fire" than 390 rounds.
I dumped 13 mags through my light barrel as quick as I could reload and squeeze the trigger.
Other than getting things really hot, no problems.
Do you really think we want laws to be observed? We want them broken. There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. When there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be crimes that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants law-abiding citizens? Pass the kind of laws that can’t be observed, enforced, or objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers.

Dumb question. Do they have a light barrel profile for the 7.62x39? I've only seen what looks to be heavy barrels.

See: Ecommerce Templates - Generic Version. Both light and heavy profile is on offer in 7.62x39 for certain lengths.

Anyone who has experience with RA knows that just because they show something listed on their website doesn't mean you're actually going to get it

Like I said, I just don't think I've ever seen one in the wild. All the ones I ever see for sale look to be the heavy barrel. I could be wrong.

There is a post from Kermit or Nate somewhere (can't recall whom) about the 'light' 7.62 barrels. They are out there for sure, just don't think due to size of the bore it is hard to tell until unless you happen to have them both laying side by side. Not like the 5.56 it seems.

I have the 7.62x39 in a light barrel. From my results today, (see "Happy with new keymod" post) the light barrel is plenty accurate. There is a HBAR model down at my LGS, it is noticably fatter. But it does make for a very front heavy piece.

Like the other members have said, sustained auto fire would be the main reason for an HBAR; if you're lucky enough to live in one of those zip codes.
