    7.62X39 Subsonic Ammo

OK Brain trust! I have the Hawganator set up. What I am looking for is some quiet or subsonic 7.62X39 ammo. If you have a suggestion PLEASE suggest away.

    Thank you.....

Lapua makes heavy 7.62x39 bullets, 200 grain I think. The problem with subs in pretty much any rifle caliber is you're greatly increasing bullet length to get that weight up and the barrel twist isn't fast enough to stabilize it, so your accuracy tends to be poor.

This might help: Searching for published 7.62x39 subsonic load data that will cycle an AK

I just looked up the twist rates for the 7.62x39 barrels on this platform and found they are either 1:10 or 1:7. The 1:10 should be fine for the Lapua 200 grain, and the 1:7 will do even heavier than that if you can find them.

Sierra makes 180 gr .311 soft points that might work well in a pinch with the right powder load.

The twist rate on my barrel is 1:7... I guess its time to learn to reload... I hoping to find some manufactured ammo. I really don't want to go to 300BLK.

fragtosser, thank you for the info.

Just talk Alex into making you a 9x39 barrel. It uses the same bolt as the 7.62x39 and same case necked up to a 9mm. Same mag, too. It uses a 278 grain bullet and Wolf is importing the ammo. It's the precursor to the 300 Whisper/blk.
