Poor college student without funds to buy a completed XCR would like to purchase your extra XCR lower (I know they are rare) that is sitting on your shelf collecting dust. The money you gain from this transaction could go towards purchasing ammo, finishing all those projects you have going, vacation (hey, you can stay at a Motel 6!), etc. I figure by getting a piece here and a piece there I should have it finished by the time I graduate. I promise to give it a loving home, cuddle with it often, and feed it well. Thanks very much for anybody taking pity on me... :crossedfingers:
I think you're dreaming. I just picked mine up yesterday, and the initial teardown shows that all the major systems are proprietary. You're just not gonna find an XCR gas block on eBay. On the other hand, if anybody has a spare military bolt sitting around, I'd be interested. Looks pretty easy to make these things shoot a whole lot faster than when they came from the factory.
Wolf, I believe you are going to have to order direct from RA. There are probably a few stripped lowers floating around out there, but the owners are going to be holding them. I believe Terra has stated that they would be willing to sell either stripped lowers and/or built lowers with no uppers. Just call them and ask. I believe you can order all the parts from them as money allows as well. For now and the forseeable future, RA will be the only parts source. Nothing short of a major military contract would be likely to change that.
Charlie, I don't even want to know what you mean by a "spare military bolt to make it shoot a lot faster than it does from the factory"... it is going to be fairly challenging to come up with a spare military bolt, seeing as the XCR is not a military rifle.
Well, kind of.
I'm not sure if an XCR bolt would interchange with an FNC or vice versa, but look at the parts diagram and tell me the XCR isn't an Americanization of a military rifle in current service.
BATF&E wouldn't be happy about what I'm thinking, either. Fear not, I have no intention of manufacturing an NFA weapon. Can't afford to shoot it, plus my range doesn't allow full auto. The XCM was developed, I believe, with the intention of making inroads in the military market. Somebody apparently was naive enough to believe that if you have a better product it'll sell without an expensive stable of congressmen, senators and generals on retainer.
I've always liked the FNC.Bravo do you have a diagram floating around there somewhere of it? I really enjoyed the bank robbery scene in the movie "HEAT",on of the only times I can think of I've ever seen an FNC on the big screen. The Galil was kool too.
And the bolt-in stamped metal ejector, the gas tube set-up, the fire control group, and especially the bolt.
The oprod, being a separate piece from the bolt carrier in the XCR, is easier to manufacture (which reduces the cost to you and I!).
That having been said, if I were given the choice of a new XCR or a new FNC (with the exclusion that I couldn't sell the FNC to buy a few XCRs LOL!) I'd go with the XCR without hesitation.
The refinements that Alex built in are - without a doubt - significant improvements.
I've had someone ask if my XCR was an FNC before. At a glance, they do look similar, inside and out.. Personally though I wouldnt take an FNC over an XCR.
