Bolt Catch / Bolt Hold Open / BHO damage

Just finished my first 400 rounds in my XCR-L. Wolf 7.62x39 154gr SP Steel Case. Quite a few misfeeds where the new round would get jammed against the back of the barrel and the soft tip would get mangled. I'll try FMJ next time and see if that fixes it.

Noticed brass shavings in the lower receiver trigger area which obviously are not from the steel casing of the Wolf. Saw that the corner of the bolt catch / bolt hold open / BHO has some damage (corner sheared off).

Anyone else had this problem? What's causing it?

    Thanks,

    Jim

What mags are you using? Does it occur with all mags?

I'm using C-Products stainless-steel mags. Haven't used any other ones.

Maybe it slip thru correct heat treatin..... :-\

I had to replace my BHO at 3500 rounds, but it looked like a combo of normal wear and a part that was a little soft. (This was a 5.56 version) I think that they are about $15 and if Kermit or Navelbeaver has them in stock, they are quick to ship.

I'm going to assume it is the new style BHO that you have but I did have some wear on my old version BHO on 5.5.6 -L. I replaced for the new version that I got from Kermit (bought a spare as well). It has worked great with no wear and fixed some of my other issues too with Pmags.

You also mentioned SP rounds which I have heard some AR guys complain about feeding issues. Maybe trying FMJ is worth a shot to see if you see less issues.

I found previous post from user "XCR Shooter" that said this:

"the new designed BHO is much stronger than the old one, but not holding the BHO up while racking the bolt keeps it from wearing prematurely with either design. "
I don't know details on this but based on his other comments on the evolution of issues on XCR, it appears that some have experienced this. If he reads this maybe he can comment further.

As others mentioned, suggest to get spares from Kermit.

Im not sure which version of bolt hold open i have, the gas block as well, would you or anyone else happen to have pictures of both? If I do have the old style, is it
critical that I replace them if i have the old ones?
    Thanks

This is the old style one - photo I posted when I was having the issue where it was not working with PMAGs

If you look really closely in the photo you can see some wear on the bottom side of the BHO shown - on the side facing the magazine. It's hard to see in this photo.

I don't have a photo of the new one but it has much larger surface area.

Re: Bolt Catch / Bolt Hold Open / BHO damage

While doing searching for the photo of BHO I ran across lots of threads about issues and magazine related stuff.

One particular thread that seemed may have interest for op of this thread is this:

    https://xcrforum.com/index.php/topic,...html#msg151385

This is probably why BuddyChryst was asking about which mags.
