    .308 and other calibers question

In the FAQ section of the XCR company web site, it says "It will handle .308, .243, 7mm 08 and other calibers based on the .308 case." I understand that if the case diameter of the different calibers is the same, then they would fit in the same chamber.

But, there are two things I do not understand about how all the other calibers can work in the .308 rifle.
First, doesn't the length of the cartridge make a difference?
Second, what about the diameter of the bullet? Wouldn't, for example, the size of a .243 bullet be too small for the barrel?

    Thanks.

To shoot different cartridges there is a separate barrel chambered and bored to the specifications for each cartridge.
Except for the barrel everything else is the same as the cartridges listed (and some others) are based on the .308 Winchester case and have the same overall length and base, or at least close enough to work reliably.

    davek,
Thanks. That's what I thought. The way I read the FAQ was that the .308 barrel would be handle the other cartridges. Perhaps what Robarms means is that someday they'll make those other calibers. It doesn't really matter to me, since what I really want is the .308 conversion kit.

Re: .308 and other calibers question

The "L" will handle the 5.56, 6.5, 6.8 & 7.62x39 ( and cases based on these calibers), the "M" will be based on the .308 cases and the resulting "popular" spinoffs...........is that confusing enough???

The major limitation is the magazine and mag well.

If the cartridge can fit in the OAL of a 7.62x51/.308 and magazine the XCR-M could technically probably be provided
