Guys, what's the shortest barrel folks are using on the XCR with a standard length gas system?

11" is as short as RA recommends. That said, I'm running a 10.5" and I am pretty positive if you really wanted to go down to the point where the brake (not a FH....you'll need a little extra back pressure IMO to get it to run 100% on steel cased ammo) screws right up against the gas block (still have to clear the dial though)...it could be done with careful port sizing....

Just guessing (without actually measuring) but I'd think that would put you in the neighborhood of around a 9 7/8" bbl length with the threads for a brake.

I'm running an 8 5/16" bbl on my mini upper and that's as short as you can go b/c the brake is right up against the gas block.

***EDIT*** Just measured mine....you could probably get down to 9.5-9.625" if you really wanted. Obviously, that's without the brake...just from bolt face to crown.***

Ok, thanks. Thinking if turning mine into an SBR but guess I'll need a new upper to be worthwhile.

How short did you want to go?

Maybe 8-9 for a 6.8 SPC. I figure a micro upper might even let me use 300 BLK if he'll freezes over and Alex actually releases it.

Ah, OK. I am torn on eventually building a AR 300 16" like Cartman, another XCR or the MDR .308 if it gets released sometime next year. You might be right though, the MDR might get here before Alex releases the 300 kit and I would have to shorten my upper.
Given that the majority here are sometimes very critical of the function of the XCR can't blame him 100% there as well. Kermit did say it was pretty close though...................

Yup, I'll get the MDR next year or the year after and already have a 16" 300 AR and an 11" 300 AR pistol with the Thorsden Customs buffer kit. I'm trying to workout whether to do a proper SBR and if so whether to do an AR or XCR. My CLEO won't sign NFA paperwork so I need to submit whatever I'm doing soon. Only just became a citizen so this wasn't an option until recently.

According to what we know so far on the MDR the first .308 barrel is 16" and this will make the MDR pretty short it being a bullpup. The only 2 questions I have about it are, how the trigger feels and how accurate it is. These will probably be answered the closer they get.
You can submit Electronic Form 1 and 4 again using a trust. The approval time is taking about 4 months now they said.

Some MDR specs. They look to be short enough for me, so I do not have to go about getting Stamps.

    Specifications

The electronic submission system is down right now so it's paper only for a while. I would like an MDR regardless as it would go well with the FS2000, RFB and Tavor I've already got.
