Possibly dependig on testing etc. Alex made mention of issues on the platform and I don't think a simple barrel swap wil resolve them. If you get it reliable I'd be interested.

If RA produces it, definitely interested.

Wouldn't spend money on the first run of a non-RA custom build though -- would want others to test first and find it reliable. I don't know if it was development issues, the trademark, or other priorities that halted RA work on the 6.5. But prior to Alexander Arms releasing the trademark, RA would have had to get permission to chamber the cartridge, or call it something it wasn't. (Speaking of which, the RA website STILL lists a ".300-221 cartridge" . . . : ) Now that 6.5G is a SAAMI spec, there might be renewed interest.

I think the hold up was finding a chamber shape and dimensions that would shoot 6.5 Grendel satisfactorily and not require the formerly expen$ive license agreement and royalties.

It stands to reason that since there is no magic in making the 6.5 run right in the AR15 there should be no problem in the XCR.
6.5 Barrel, magazines and a 7.62x39 bolt are all that should be needed.

That, and getting the size right on the gas port and holes in the gas dial so it will function across a range of ammo and suppressed. I have no idea how much trial and error that might take to get it right.

6.5 BPC works, it's been around for a while and there is no secret sauce involved. Why alex had issues makes no sense unless there was a fundemental weakness in the design around the bolt or bolt lockup.

To my understanding it was merely an accuracy issue, not technical, as most pp seem to believe. I've been a constant pain in the ass for the last 2 years tryin to get them to put out the 6.5 kits. From what i was told, mechanically it ran fine, they just aren't gettin the accuracy they want.

From your conversations with RA, can you share what twist rates, rifling and barrel types they've been using? There's a lot of data out there on the Grendel now, so perhaps they just need to dump the chrome-lined barrels and look at other options.

I can't really speak for the twist rates, but i would like to see something other than a chrome lined barrel used. From reading tactical weapons mags, i know theres a nitroide treatment, or something like that, that can give a surface hardness comparable or better than chrome lining without the need to overbore. Whatever rifle it was used on was gettin great accuracy. wish i could find the article.

    Tom,

Definitely interested. I have been surfing much of the day looking at other multi caliber/ modular carbines. Just a lot of vaporware
other than the new Colt product. I was thinking of calling Templar Custom; Bob makes exchangeable caliber ARs in 5.56, 6.5, and 50
Beowolf. He once said if I had the $$$ he would do it.

I know this is an old post, but now that the 6.5 is SAAMI accepted, thought maybe the topic could be revived.

The old method of bore and rifle oversized and ( hopefully ) plate to size more or less is seldom used anymore and when it is its used on belt fed MG barrels. The results are considered too inconsistent for rifles.

For the last few decades the modern method has been to start with a finished standard bore barrel and then electro chemically hone away a few ten-thousandths of an inch and replace it with hard chrome in a precisely controlled process.

There is a reason why RA has not released the 6.5 yet, And it's not "because Alex is a douche".
I wonder if there is hard feeling between those two.

If the gas port needed a different location that would only be a matter of putting the gas block there and slapping in a longer or shorter gas piston head and gas tube.

I also wonder if the reason is trepidation about putting out a self loading rifle in 6.5 that won't equal the accuracy of a bolt gun in 6.5.

Since most of the articles on the 6.5 rave about the match accuracy of the 6.5 many have come to expect that as the bench mark for all 6.5 rifles.
