Re: Any interest in custom 6.5 barrels?

Just noticed I hadn't put any new info on this thread. I found out that RA has been using 1/9 twist rates on both the 6.5mm and .260 barrels, niether of which, in my last communications from Alex, were getting acceptable accuracy. From my understanding both 18.6 and 16 inch barrels were tested with the 6.5mm, but I didn't ask about the .260. And as Whiskey-three-six noted, the 6.5 is known for its outstanding accuracy, so anything over 1-1.5 MOA is going to be a dissappiontment and not go over well. As for the piston or gas port, it uses the same as all the other kits- the beauty of the XCR- only needing a barrel, bolt, and magazine to change calibers.
    There ain't many problems a man can't fix- with $700 and a 30-06!

My coworker has been waiting on a 6.5 AR15 barrel for over 6 months now - I think he might finally be ready to just have me build one for him. If that happens, I will be getting the reamer/gauges - which means I can make my own XCR barrel.

    Green Mountain's website lists a 1-8 twist 27" blank for $100.

Size: 268 Bytes Only thing you may have to work out are the port sizes and gas blocks?

I won't be able to sell any barrels until RA changes their mind and lets me sell the barrel extensions - or I have the extensions made our shop or someone else.

My first one will be a 16" - I already have a longer barrel 6.5 in AR platform, I really do think the DI guns are more accurate because of the gas system. The XCR will be a 16" hard-hitting carbine, probably pair it with my 1.5X ACOG - make a hell of a brush gun and make my 16" AR10 kind of irrelevant.

I hope my coworker decides to have me make him that AR barrel - that will subsidize most of my tooling cost.

I did talk to RA on the phone yesterday and my parts request has made it to Alex's desk - so fingers crossed. On the gas port, I'll do something similar to what I did with the BLK. I made the gas port .125, which is the same diameter as the port in the gas block. This way there is no bottleneck in front of the regulator ports - I can start small with those and just port up until it cycles on position "2". Then, I can port the suppressed setting until it locks back with a can - the rest will be slightly larger and smaller from there - not rocket science at all......well maybe a little bit I suppose......

Hope my coworker decides to have me make that AR barrel - that will mostly subsidize my tooling cost for another caliber.

Will you have to purchase the gas blocks and dials from RA or make your own with some enhancements?

Dunno yet - I'd rather just buy them.

I figure I'll make a few barrels, get them tested and working well - and then broach the subject with RA. If he was smart, he'd realize a guy making a handful of custom barrels only increases the interest in his product......but who knows.
