As soon as I get it back I'll get pics up and a range session.

Sell it and buy a LWRC REPR .308 or LWRC 68. And be done with it. Robinson Arms is reminding me of the old Heath kit radios.

The good is that you got lots of range time working on fundamentals. I know it sucks, kind of like an outer ring of Hell. But I appreciate the experience, vicariously. I'm very interested in the "FIX".
So any ideas what is going on here in regards to the fix, what is the problem, is it the gas tube or the gas block?

Not real sure. Alex wasn't offering up a lot. The gas block/tube interface sounds like it originated with what Bravo heard at SHOT. I'm assuming I'll be able to tell pretty quick once I get it back. There was significant play fore and aft in my original tube. Had heard Alex was going to be out of the shop in early March. Not sure if that'll delay any fixes. I don't think my parts will even show up until early next week.

Can someone try some shims between the tube and gas block to test in the mean time?

I wonder if a big O-ring gasket would work for tightening it up?

Doubt it. Not solid, too much give to make a difference.

Good point. I just thought maybe it was allowing too much gas to escape and might seal it up. Maybe creating an odd pressure wave or strange harmonics? I'm a little at a loss as to why the gas tube being loose is causing problems.

Had a chance to talk with Alex today. The fix is just what Bravo talked about earlier in the thread with the gas block/tube interface. They found that making it a tighter fit has helped all their test rifles. They aren't real sure how they're going to handle the fix for the masses. They've gone back and looked at the uppers and there's some variance so it sounds like they got 2 versions of tube that will cover all the uppers. Sounded like a combination of longer tube, tighter fit between the block and tube and the tube and upper. Expect some machining to the gas black as well. They've taken some high speed video of the M and they standard RA brake caused quite a bit of flex to the barrel. They're recommending brakes that vent only to the sides to help and are designing a brake for the M that will be offered in the future. I'm assuming the new tolerances will be worked into the new Ms. It sounded like there were 2 versions of uppers and at least 2 versions of barrel extensions that made it into the wild for the Ms. He sounded pretty confident with this fixed and mentioned that he was getting better groups with lighter ammo as well. If you're familiar with the M96(I've never handled one) Alex mentioned that the gas block setup was similar and that the M96s shot fairly well. That's about all I've got for the M.

I've got some 300 conversion info as well. That'll be going in the 300 thread shortly.

Thanks for the update. At least there's a possible fix! I'll have to check my M when I get it and see.
