Question, please: are M96 Bren and non-Bren rifle barrels interchangeable? Thanks! QM

    No and yes.

    No.
While a M96 bren barrel physically fits the receiver it's front sight can not be made to work with the rifles rear sight and the rifle and bren sights do interchange.

    Yes.
Reconfiguring to M96 bren spec is easy if you have the kit.
Strip the rifle down, flip the receiver so the charging handle is on the right and reassemble omitting the rifle barrel and rear sight replacing those with the bren barrel and rear sight.

Factory M96 bolt release/lock found only on the latest gen M96 rifles(pic belongs to JTrocks @ calguns.net who made an M96 mag lock so we could run M96s with 10rd mags per CA Law):

The M96 bolt release/lock mechanism was built in(welded) into the magwell...so not something you could upgrade yourself. You'd need to find the complete magwell or buy an M96 rifle configured with it.

Ok...I'll tell ya...1st gen since I can easily replace the recoil spring. Try replacing it on the 2nd gen and let me know how that works out for you!!!

Serial numbers started at HP99000500. First one in private hands was HP99000529. Sn HP99000500 to HP99000528 were reseved by the factory for their use.
HP99 Sn# prefix recievers were started by on outside souce and completed by Robinson while RA02 amd RA03 Sn# prefix recievers were manufacured completely in house by R.A.

Finite Element Analysis was one of the tools used in during the design phase. Receivers were nitrided stainless with a design service life of greater than 80,000 rounds.

Six barrels were made in 6x45 cal. Fifty stainless heavy match barrels were slated for production, three had been produced at the time of that particular phone conversation. Unknown number of standard barrels were reputedly nitride treated. RECON carbine barrels had chrome bores. RA was not in favor of this but did it anyway due to customer demand. 100 BREN kits were slated for production but broken into two runs of 50 kits each due to a part suppliers delay. An unknown to me number of heavy barrel carbines and heavy carbine barrel kits were produced. IIRC Arms Tech in Phoenix, AZ patented and manufactured a belt feed kit for the M96 known as the Revere 96A1. Only one has been verified to exist. It changed hands on the Strum board for a little over $13,000. The folding stock prototype was in testing. ( It was carried directly over to the XCR ) Unknown if or how many were shipped.

The RAV-02 was select fire M96 derivative aimed for the MIL and LE market. It was chambered 5.56 feeding from AR mags and convertible to 7.62x39 feeding from AK mags. It featured a distinctly different lower that accepted standard AR grips and most M16 FCG components.
