Re: Real Inflation 8% not the phony lies of BLS's reported 3%

Maybe I'm living in a horrible place, but everything is going up out of control. Groceries are ridiculous. Gas - we all know about that. I'm packing lunches to work since you can't even get fast food for less than $8. This last week, I had to drop coffee. The only remaining place I got coffee near work raised price over $2..... so enough of that. I brew tea now at home and take in one of those thermal bottles. The police have at least quadrupled the amount of tickets (taxes) being handed out - now it's every week of the month and no longer just the last week of month. On top of that, people have been showing up to work recently with tickets from red light cameras too. Cable bills, cell phone, water, trash, insurance, taxes, etc..... all send increases every few months. This all adds up.

You have to be ruthless and fight back or they will bleed you out by many small bites. You can't have any loyalty to anything and have to be willing to chop off anything or switch to something else.

I track my spending and I see the massive rise year to year.... the rise is definitely speeding up even with my cutbacks.

Realistically there are only one or two things that I have bought in the last 2 years that I can think of that are cheaper these days. Any they are technological advances like the computer that I just bought. Everything else is double digits + more expensive.
Riding, Shooting, or Golfing...you pick and I will be there.

Based on your gun collection, I'd guess you are well above the median income in the US (what, like $50K per year?). The more money you make, the less inflation impacts you.

Inflation hits those with little or no disposable income the hardest. No offense, but your attitude towards how this theft by the incestuous relationship between our government and the financial sector is disheartening. It's smacks of the "if it ain't happening to me, it ain't happening" mentality of America as a whole.

We ALL need to change this mindset.

What affects one of us, can easily affect all of us.....from infringement of our liberty to fraud in the financial sector, to waste and corruption in government.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things: the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse.... A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.----John Stuart Mill

Re: Real Inflation 8% not the phony lies of BLS's reported 3%

Inflation is external market risk; supply/demand, and speculation driven. There are ways to hedge it if you want or need to buy the inflated products, but you cannot entirely avoid it unless you don't buy any material goods. (Unless you are some kind of Yogi, man cannot live on air alone.)
A classic hedge is gold. Buy coins, ETFs, or futures; in other words become a speculator in the market yourself. The risk in that is market timing.
Buy at the top and you still lose your shirt (unless you go short.) Want to hedge gas? Buy into a pipeline public partnership. Again, you need
some expertise in any of the commodity or capital markets to know when you should hold or fold.

Inflation is impersonal. It doesn't care how much money you have. The bread (or whatever) you buy today is still going to cost more in the future.
It's opportunity cost: buy it today with cash or buy it on credit and pay the future inflated cost.
The world will change when you are ready to pronounce this oath:
I swear by my Life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man,nor ask another man to live for the sake of mine.

The price of meat is exceedingly high. Fortunately I laid in a bacon stash in anticipation of the hikes, and pork prices haven't risen as much as others.

Unfortnately the price of fresh beef especially seems to have increased greatly. The cheap stuff is $4.99 / lb.

Oh those things we use at work for free! I don't think I have ever bought a staple in the past 10 years.

Hmmm, I hope it's not a red Swingline stapler and they don't decide to take it away from you. Based on fixation on staples in this thread, hoping no one is playing with matches.

Speaking of inflation, those damn staplers are really expensive now!
