White House recruits foundations on gun effort

The White House on Tuesday afternoon reached out to major philanthropic foundations not typically associated with gun control to gauge how much they are willing to get involved in President Obama’s future gun violence prevention efforts, according to a person on the call.

The call, which featured Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Jonathan Greenblatt, the director of the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation, and members of Vice President Biden’s staff, was largely a “listening session,” according to the person on the call, who represents a foundation invited to participate.

The person said the call included the Open Society Institute, the McCormick Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the California Endowment. Those groups, which traditionally work in public health fields, have not previously been identified with major gun control efforts.

White House officials declined to comment about the call.

“There’s only one reason why you get a bunch of deep-pocketed funders on the phone,” the participant said. “It’s not because they’re great dancers. It’s because at the end of the day you need to tap into them for something.”

White House officials didn’t preview specifics proposals to be made by Biden’s working group, the participant said, but instead gauged interest of the foundations to work toward Obama’s gun priorities, even if the White House is not immediately successful in passing new gun control legislation.

“What they may be doing on calls like this is taking the temperature of folks to see how many of you are in this for the long haul,” the participant said. “They are testing the water to see, will you people with deep pockets, will you be there to back us up?”

A truth’s initial commotion is directly proportional to how deeply the lie was believed. When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic.

Excerpt from Sipsey: This committee formed with Biden at helm may be illegal....doesn't give citizens notice of hearings nor are they public.

In a related and ingenious development, Larry Klayman of Freedom Watch has written the White House claiming Biden’s task force, as presently being conducted, violates “the Federal Advisory Committee Act which applies to ‘any committee, board, commission, council, conference, panel, task force, or other similar group’ that dispenses ‘advice or recommendations’ to the president of the United States.

“Pursuant to FACA, a task force must publish within the Federal Registry notice of any meeting 15 days prior to that meeting, and the meetings must be made open to the public,” Klayman maintains in his letter. “The first meeting of this task force was held a single day after its creation, without the required notice requirements having been met.”

Klayman has a great point, and as Obama has made it clear he is soliciting inputs from “stakeholders,” we who are the ultimate beneficiaries or goats deserve to know exactly who is planning to do what to us, to see what “end game” goals are enumerated by the antis, and what pill, if any, those on the “pro-gun” side think we need to swallow (but aren’t ready to publicly prescribe) to break the fever.

Assuming Klayman’s thrown flag won’t stop tomorrow’s meeting from happening, there have been concerns expressed that a compromise of some sort might be in the works, particularly if only NRA and industry representatives attend the “stakeholder” meeting, and especially if no record of the proceedings, negotiations and potential concessions is kept. That Congress, and not just ostensibly “pro-gun” representatives, but the soft, squishy middle, will be too spooked to just oppose all “gun control” proposals and feel compelled to offer up something, lest they suffer the wrath of manipulated constituencies, has been a subject of concern among some gun rights leaders, resulting in speculation that either an expansion of mental health disabilities or caving on private sales might be offered up to take the heat off the hardware.

Easy...you get caught selling a gun to another person, you go to the federal penitentiary. Think drug buy with undercover agents, confidential informants and the like.
