    Relevant Quote from Ayn Rand:

There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism—by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide.

    - Ayn Rand, “Foreign Policy Drains U.S. of Main Weapon,” The Los Angeles Times, Sept. 9, 1962

The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed -- where the government refuses to stand for re-election and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake free people get to make only once." Judge Alex Kozinski, 9th District

I wouldn't go that far. Honestly, At the end of the day, they are not that different. Both are just politicians looking out for themselves. Just like true communism does not exist but is a unobtainable, pie-in-the-sky idea. There has not been one communist nation. Oh sure, some countries say they are communist but they are really a dictatorship of some sort (Soviet Union, China, N. Korea etc). True communism goes against human nature and that is why it doesn't exist. Everyone wants their "stuff" and they want to keep what is theirs. On the other hand, socialism is a sliding scale of government involvement. Given enough time, Democracies tend to slide toward socialism and socialistic countries trend toward democracy. Ideally there is some happy medium although I have no idea what that would be.

Our country slides back and forth on this scale due to economics, global tensions etc. The good thing is we can help steer the US by our vote. It is tougher these days due to lobbying but we still can help set a course. Rather than bitching about politics, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Organize your neighbors into mini PACS and support the candidates of your choice. I don't care if they are the Tea party, Republicans or democrats. Hell, most of the folks don't even vote in the US. No wonder we are screwing the pooch.

Ok, I am done with my rant. Damn, I have got to quite drinking coffee in the afternoon..lol!

It wasn't always this bad. When I was a young man -- say 30 years ago -- I knew a few Congressmen and Senators who who had principles and stuck to them. They helped keep their individual parties in line, and managed to work for the good of the people. I doubt whether there is anyone like that left in Congress -- maybe Ron Paul.
