Rep. Peter King (R-NY) Claims Wikileaks is a Terrorist Organization....

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40412689...ity/?GT1=43001

Of course, leaking information that says China was responsible for cyber attacks against the US, that Saudi's King wanted Iran's Nuclear Program attacked, that various allies/leaders are "easily manipulated", "corrupt", "parties hard", etc.....just goes to show that the truth should be an actionable offense in Amerika.

Apparently, some 60+% of Amerikans agree with King.....

More complete story on just what was leaked:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40412844...ity/?gt1=43001

Obviously, our government can't stand for having their own dirty laundry aired in public....so anyone who does so must be a terrorist. How convenient.

Look, I'm not a super-secret, in the know, well connected Washington insider or agent of some alphabet agency at the Pentagon....yet I'd already heard and pretty much knew China had launched a cyber attack against the Pentagon a few years ago and shut them down for something like 3-4 days IIRC. Also, it's no news flash to anyone who's been paying attention that the Pakistani government is not really our ally and that the vast majority of the people of Pakistan could be characterized as radically muslim. The leadership/govt. of Pakistan says one thing to us and another to its people. It's also no secret that many Sunni governments have been urging the US to attack Iran's nuclear program. Yemen's government is working w/ the US against the terrorist influence in their country??? No shit sherlock.

The only thing that was released that was "news" (and more tabloid news than anything else) were the personal smears against allies and enemies. Embarrassing for the US? Yes. Treasonous or terrorist.....no.

Too bad the leaks don't have documents containing info on the missile trail seen off the Commiefornia coast. That would have been interesting.

There's the catch of being a free society. In order to be truly open and transparent, that means you're open and transparent not just to your populace, but to everyone...especially potential enemies.

I for one, believe that national secrets are a regrettable necessity. Do I really like the idea of my government keeping secrets from me? No. But I understand it must be done. The trick is to have appropriate oversight, to make sure everything doesn't become a secret. I've said it before, one of the direct causes for the success terrorists had on 9/11 was the trial of the '93 bombers in civilian courts, where we had to tip our hand regarding intel gathering methods. Had some government secrets remained secret, perhaps we would've had better intel and a better chance at preventing the attacks.

So Wikileaks being terrorist? No. Helping our enemies? Yes. Treasonous? I'll say no, depending on how the information was procured. The treasonous acts, IMO, could be stealing the information, but not the reporting of it.

Who should be in the hangman's noose? The owner of Wikileaks, the PFC that gave the info to Wikileaks or Peter King?

Sorry...I'm not clear on who you meant.

Everyone but peter king. Should have probably specified about that. Bradley Manning will probably see a firing squad though.

Julian Asange (sp?) isn't guilty of anything except being a self righteous a-hole. I'm certain he picks and chooses what gets posted on his site in accordance with his own views. So he's not really the crusader for truth and justice he claims to be. Plus he's not a US citizen and he didn't accquire the info through illicit means. So there's really no case there. Bradley Manning on the other hand should be beaten about the head and shoulders along with his NCOs and CO CoC (Soldiers are a direct reflection of their leadership). Regardless of how trivial or not most of this info may be it wasn't his place to decide the world needed to know. If he thought he was exposing war crimes, he's sadly mistaken all he did was compromise someone's chance at a fair trial. He's an intel analyst so he was believed to be trustworthy and mature at one point. He's now disproven that and made a fool of everyone who ever trusted him. He has no honor. I swear, the nerve of lower enlisted these days. The shit they get away with lately would at the very least have earned them a wall to wall counseling session back in my day. Smug, little self righteous bastard. F#%* him.

    Agree completely.

Nicely put. Manning should face a firing squad for his actions. However, for Peter King to insinuate he should be able to label Wikileaks' owner or the organization a FTO and hunt them down like Al Qaeda or Taliban wreaks of the mindset of a petty tyrant opposing anyone who speaks ill of the ruling elite. Asange is a total goofball.....but to proclaim him leader of a foreign terrorist organization is laughable.

Wikileaks: It Could Take Down a Bank Or Two

Oh oh... now we know why everyone's calling for the government to try to arrest Assange:

So do you have very high impact corporate stuff to release then?

Yes, but maybe not as high impactÖI mean, it could take down a bank or two.

    ...

    Will we?

Yes. We have one related to a bank coming up, thatís a megaleak. Itís not as big a scale as the Iraq material, but itís either tens or hundreds of thousands of documents depending on how you define it.

    Is it a U.S. bank?

    Yes, itís a U.S. bank.

    One that still exists?

    Yes, a big U.S. bank.

    The biggest U.S. bank?

    When will it happen?

Early next year. I wonít say more.

What do you want to be the result of this release?

    [Pauses] Iím not sure.

It will give a true and representative insight into how banks behave at the executive level in a way that will stimulate investigations and reforms, I presume. Usually when you get leaks at this level, itís about one particular case or one particular violation.

For this, thereís only one similar example. Itís like the Enron emails. Why were these so valuable? When Enron collapsed, through court processes, thousands and thousands of emails came out that were internal, and it provided a window into how the whole company was managed. It was all the little decisions that supported the flagrant violations.

This will be like that. Yes, there will be some flagrant violations, unethical practices that will be revealed, but it will also be all the supporting decision-making structures and the internal executive ethos that cames out, and thatís tremendously valuable. Like the Iraq War Logs, yes there were mass casualty incidents that were very newsworthy, but the great value is seeing the full spectrum of the war.

You could call it the ecosystem of corruption. But itís also all the regular decision making that turns a blind eye to and supports unethical practices: the oversight thatís not done, the priorities of executives, how they think theyíre fulfilling their own self-interest. The way they talk about it.

If you were wondering why there's a sudden desire to shut these guys down, after they "leaked" all sorts of information about the Iraq and Afghanistan war - including classified material, which drew nothing other than "outrage" - well, now you know.

    They're after some banks.

(Gee Eric Holder, why is it that you can't go after some banks? I know, it's a rhetorical question and has a simple answer - you and Obama, along with Congress, are too busy blowing their executives.)
