    Question about newest gen bolt

    Hello,
I have very noticeable wear on the lower portion of the ejection port like others. It's confined to a small area at the end closest to the chamber.
Is this caused by the bolt rubbing against the rail?
I thought I read somewhere the newest bolt has a flattened portion on the side that rides along the rail.
If so, that would seem to be designed to alleviate the wear issue.
    I'll post some pics tonight.

    Thanks very much.

Could it be from bolt rotation during lockup during cycling?
It's right on the edge of the rail before the bolt goes into battery.

It is quite chewed up, not simply dinged from spent brass.....

Are there any markings/gouges/scrapes on the bolt?
From your pictures it looks like it is being hit when the bolt in it's rearward movement.

Thanks. That makes more sense. I'll check when I get home tonight.

I took a look at all my uppers. Some old, some new, all calibers except 6.8. Nothing like that on any of them. There's some rub marks but no bare metal.

I'd send those pics to tech at RA and see what they say.

    Agreed. Not normal.

Thanks everyone. The bolt is definitely getting hung up on that portion.
I wonder if the bolt carrier has too much play, forcing the bolt to be uncentered before it slides over the rail.
I sent an email to tech support. It is at least 7 years old. I hope something can be done.
