My wife and I both shot the shorter 338LM version of it at SHOT. I would get the Desert Tactical if it weren't so dang expensive. When my wife got behind it and was hitting Larue targets out to 400m with ease, I knew I wanted something in that caliber (she did the same thing with the Savage).

I think be both short stroked the action the first couple times just getting used to the location. It wouldn't be a show stopper.

But there's something to to be said for the Desert Tactical's coolness.
When have any of our plans ever actually worked? We plan, we get there, all hell breaks loose.

No, that price tag might though. I'd like to do some long range shooting, but there's just nowhere around here to do it.

So I'm assembling a new AR on one of the receivers I got a while back. You guys had some nice shootin irons out there.

That guy, he said I should be oblong and have my knees removed. But I don't trust him, he plays the banjo.

The biggest factor in accuracy is reloading. Gun really plays no significant part.

    1) Neck Size

    2) Use Accurate bullets

    3) Set OAL to or close to the lands

    4) Get a nice stable stock and set up the cheek weld were it is comfortable to you. Make sure barrel if free floated

    5) FGMM Gold Medal Match primers, I found these to be the best for consistent velocity. A difference of 40 foot per sec will not matter at 100 yards, but at 1000 yards, 40fps difference means about 1.5 MOA difference between the 2 bullets. 1.5 MOA means a miss if your target is only 1 MOA or less accross. Such as ours were above.

    6) Factory Remington and Savage Barrels are very good. Every one I have encountered was capable of same hole (1/4 MOA) accuracy as long as the ammo was custom loaded for that barrel.

All those gimmicky guns I see such as Desert Tactical or the ones I see on TV always has me rolling my eyes. They are all marketing gimmicks. It works too, most gun guys are not that bright and easily fall for marketing.

OOOOHHHH!! Desert Tactical. Sounds cool. Where can I get one? If it costs more than a Remington 700 I'm sure it must be better.

I wouldn't call the Desert Tactical a gimic. Being a bullpup, it allows the shooter to have a 338LM with a 20+" barrel in a package that is smaller than a conventional design with a shorter barrel.

Your money, spend it how you like. Don't let that fool Cartmann tell you what is a gimmick or what is not.

Are you crazy?? I am not buying one, they are WAY to expensive. I am just saying that there aren't many options out there for someone that wants a smaller package with a long barrel.
