People are raving about the NG2 Defense MZLMAX. I have one on my .308 XCR pistol. While it does direct blast away from those to the left/right (and even slightly in front, but to the sides of) the shooter....it's also pretty bulky and long (over 3" IIRC). It's not cheap either at around $150 retail, but there are discounts available if you're connected to the CEO on LinkedIn (about $100 IIRC).

Personally, any brake will help with recoil and ports on the top help with muzzle rise. Not sure any of them are really any better in terms of those two primary functions. The biggest difference is how much blast they put out to other shooters next to you. Battle Comp is ridiculously expensive (IMO) too....and does a good job of mitigating that effect.

For about $30, the 2 port brake from Armalite is a good one (especially if you drill a few ports in the top)...but the blast to the sides is pretty bad.

I dunno...I've owned a whole slew of different brands. They all seem to work....more ports in the sides mean better recoil reduction but more length which becomes an issue on pistols/rifles you're trying to keep short.

The absolute best I have ever shot in terms of stabilizing the rifle. People to either side of you will curse your name in their sleep though... lol they work very well like most JP products.
