    M14 Front Sight

Has anyone ever tried the M14/M1A front sight ont he gas block dove tail of the XCR yet. I have been looking into this and trying to see if it is too low. It looks as though it would be but I don't want to spend the 50 bucks to test it out. Unless there is someone else here on the forum who is willing to buy one and test it out, I was wondering if someone has an springfield M1A from which they can test it with.

    Too small to fit.

    Re: M14 Front Sight

I had the old M14 sight from my build and tried it the other day. The dovetail on the front sight was too small to fit. It would have been way too low as well, just barely clearing the top of the rail.

Some posted it a little bit ago that there should be a piece of rail up there instead. Troy makes a front sight now that adjusts windage and elevation, it'd work just fine methinks.

That was me. You see it sometimes on ARs and it looks great. It should match the same plane as the upper rail. It would allow each barrel/caliber kit to have it's own front buis set to different zero.

The current dovetail doesn't seem to be made for anything.

Okay. I talked to Alex Robinson and he said that the dove tail was designed to fit a future sight that he is working on.

That was very forward thinking of him. I wonder if it would be more advantageous to keep the sights on the rails since the gas block comes off with the barrel. That way, you could just use one set of irons for different barrels. It'll be interesting to see how it works. Something to look forward to.

I think it would be better to leave the front sight with the barrel, that way it is always set up for elevation for that caliber.
