My conclusion: Get a short barrel! Cartmann's XCR SBR is awesome! If I could get one I would! I'd glue that thing to me.

How do I tell if I got the heavy barrel or the light barrel? I just got my XCR-L 7.62x39

(sorry for the thread resurrection but I figure the question fits here)

In the 7.62 due to the bore size I believe RA starts with a 'heavy' blank. Basically there is no 'heavy' barrel per say in 7.62 from RA.

There is a "light" profile, it's pretty evident when they're side by side. I don't think it's as thin as a 556 light profile but it is time than standard. I don't have a light to measure but I think the heavy barrel diameter is .750 all the way. There's some pics on here that Kermit posted way back.

I suppose if you want to shoot hundreds of rounds non-stop a H barrel might be the way to go more? Other than that I love my thin barreled XCR.

That is actually not true. The heavier the barrel, the less "barrel whip" and harmonic vibration you will get, which definitely will have an effect on accuracy. The reason the "Russian Rattle Can" (AK) is such an inaccurate weapon is it suffers from terrible barrel whip. They also absorb heat much better, which greatly reduces "walking", which will also affect accuracy.
