Can anyone tell me where I can get my hands on some 50 or 55 grain, 223, Federal American Eagle ammo? I need around 300 rounds for break in.

I think the requirement is for high pressure "hot" ammo during break-in. American Eagle is just one example. Any of the milspec surplus ammo would do just as well. I just ran 150 rounds of Pri Partizan 5.56 M193 rounds through my new XCR without a single problem. It runs about $330/1000 instead of about $450/1000 for American Eagle.

I was inspecting the spent brass this afternoon for cratered primers and the only thing I found was that I had about a 10 cases with dings in the ends of the necks. At gas position 4, the I think the rounds were being slammed to a block wall about 4 feed to my right by the ejector so hard that if it hit right it dinged the case neck.

For reference, I picked up 3 cases of Federal/American Eagle for ~$375 each, this month.

Just picked up 2 cases of Sellier & Bellot at ~350 each.

I used Remington UMC to break my XCR in and it worked fine for me and it was a lot cheaper

I am interested in this as well as I still haven't fired my XCR.. I saw these on ammoman.com. Any thoughts on if these would work well:

$225 for 500rds includes shipping:

5.56 / 223 Federal Lake City XM193
55 GRAIN FMJ - XM193C

This is Federal Lake City .223 / 5.56 XM193 55gr. FMJ ammo. This ammo is manufactured by Lake City and is manufactured to US Military M193 specs. This is considered to be the best .223 55gr. ammo money can buy. It is brass cased, boxer primed, and 100% non-corrosive. It is packed in 20rd boxes, 500rds per case.

That is not typical Red Box American Eagle (that stuff is not M193 spec).

Anything that is M193 spec should work at least as well as AE, as it should be hotter than the red box AE.

It said in the description of the ammo "This ammo is manufactured by Lake City and is manufactured to US Military M193 specs."

Is this incorrect??

That's good milspec ammo, but not a great price.
If you look and wait, you can find it at $350/1k at Natchez Shooters Supply, Outdoor Marksman, or even Midwayusa.com from time to time.

Yep...my family outing last night was to the range to pick up brass...no guns or anything. My kids (3 and 4) just love picking the stuff up.

Reloading is the best way to go.
