Opening the ejection port of the XCR-L upper will compromise the receiver to BCG contact surfaces which are critical to proper function.
This was determined about 2009 in the .458 SOCOM discussion thread.
The SOCOM round was found too large of diameter to pass through the ejection port so a rimless version of the .460 S&W Magnum was proposed at the time.
The discussion was apparently stimulating as the .45 RAPTOR came to market a year or two later.

I get what you're saying. So basically, we'd have to redesign the upper (and probably some of its internal parts) to feed one of these half-inch cases. So basically, the -L is designed for 5.56 and all the options we've gotten so far are all we're going to get. Even from what I've read about .45 Raptor seems better suited to the -M.
