I get real confused on red dot sight discussions.
I read an internet review that links to places that sell the items being reviewed, and they have lots of praise for the $100 price range sights.
I read a thread on a forum, and nothing priced less than $1,000 is acceptable.
I'd kind of like something decent quality that does not cost as much as the firearm, or at least another firearm.

Aimpoint's RDS is supposed to be a decent quality red dot sight, intended for law enforcement use, and priced below the thousand dollar range. I think this model was introduced after the last thread on this topic.
Aimpoint is supposed to be a respected name that (?) invented the category (?) of red dot sights. And Aimpoint has plenty of offerings in that thousand dollar price range.
Is this one a good value for the money, or something else?

Aimpoint is a gold standard for sights. They make great stuff. Ive purchased a Comp m5 for my xcr but I have co-workers that are going to get the RDS duty sight when it is availaible. The glass is supposedly very clear and comparable to if not better than the Aimpoint T2s. That being said the duty sight has different features to cut cost but not lose Aimpoint ruggedness. Id say if if the RDS duty sight is in your budget go for it. Id recommended that over holosuns for sure. Not saying anything bad about holosuns but you definitely get what you pay for in optics.

Aimpoint is quality kit. It's also super expensive and if you have astigmatism, you may want a prism instead. As my eyes worsen with age, I find I prefer prisms now instead. And personally, I am loving the new $260 Primary Arms Cyclops...and I own several Aimpoint T1s and Comp M models.

Prisms are sweet. And you always have the reticle even with no battery cause its etched. Thinkin of doin a 2x for a 300 black out shortie some day

T2 is great. The new duty version should be decent.
Whatever you get, make sure it fits that micro mount.
I've had good luck with Holosun 515s, avoid the solar panel version as the battery tray and auto brightness sucks, the sensor isn't in the tube. Their mount also sucks, so get something like a bobro/larue/adm. Avoid 400 series, 503, 510.

I have several 403Rs...no issues, ever. Are the an Aimpoint T series....no, I wouldn't suggest they are equal in quality, but I'd wager they are much closer to the RDS.

I've seen 403/503 emitter assembly fall apart, but so far the replacements from Holosun have held up. Everything they sent as a replacement was the 2nd gen
When did the 2nd gens come out? Mine are several years old....
