It's been a long time since a run of folding charging handles were produced. You might be able to modify one to fit, but I don't have any spare FAL handles to measure at the moment. I think you lose forward assist.

Yeah i was curious about DIY with other gun handles cause it doesnt seem too difficult (at first glance) since the handle appears to be a separate piece.
Does anyone have any pics of the charging handle fully disassembled?

I think there's still a list for MountainMan's charging handles....not sure when he's actually starting production though.

Sounds like he may be getting close...

Here you go because I care. Note that the roll pin that is used to pin the assembly together from the plastic knob is NOT pictured; it's somewhere in my house but we know it is needed to put it all together.

Partially assembled. Also note that there is a detent installed at the head of the slide; it consists of a steel detent, spring and roll pin. It's not necessary to take it apart unless you are trying to replace the detent for whatever reason.

I also modeled the charging handle assembly in CAD based on measurements I took off of the slide I took off my rifle.

The charging handle is relatively simple; so much that I haven't figured out a way to really improve it yet. One of these days I'd like to do something with the charging handle but as mentioned, the current charging handle works good and MountainMan is working on his solution.

Oh wow, I thought about doing something like that before but I couldn't reconcile some of the dimensions to make it work! It's like that aftermarket PS90 FCH from KM Aerospace:

So where did you get that handle? Who is producing it?
Chowwow,
Thats because it is made by K&M Aerospace! I got tired of waiting for Mountainman to start producing them again. If you think his FCH is nice you should check out his all metal bullpup rifles.

I can say that I did not know these existed! 🤔 Thanks for posting and bringing these to our attention. While I like that Mountainmans folded flat, these look like a nice option since we can’t exactly get our hands on those.

Yup, what Victor said. K&M Aerospace: K&M Aerospace - XCR Handler
How in the HELL did I miss out on this announcement?! I was even on their website last night! I'm kicking myself for not seeing this earlier!

Anyway, thanks for bringing this up. I'll probably get at least one!

Got mine. Found out that removing the roll-pin in the original charging handle is a pain. Anyone have any tips?
Just use a 1/16" punch and a hammer to remove the pin.Split the upper and lower receivers and remove bolt carrier group.Put your finger inside the upper receiver to hold the charging handle shaft and push it outward when you install the FCH. Slide the spring over it first and then the new handle .Push the handle all the way in and drive the roll pin in.

I can second that the k&m bullpen is a quality rifle, mines in 30hate, lots of fun. And it's about the same length as a 8in xcr L with brace. Very robust. Only bullpen I own and it's the only one I've felt that didn't feel like a plastic toy. My only bitch with rhe k&m is I wishvthey offered a longer upper to go with the longer barel. There isn't much space in front of the pistol grip.

My new charging knob from K&M arrived just in time for my -M! I can already tell that the handle is very long compared to the repurposed FAL handle used in the MountainMan handles; not sure if anyone needs the length honestly. The handle keeps the forward assist feature from the regular handle; in exchange, the K&M handle is as tall as the regular knob, so it's not going to look as sleek or compact as the MountainMan knob. It's a good choice as it doesn't require you to change out the entire assembly, just the knob.

I wanted to do something like this earlier (replacing the knob with a folding knob and keeping the slide) but I was having trouble with keeping the profile low enough so that it would be worthwhile. The current knob is already really high and kinda breaks the profile of it being a lean rifle. Now that I see the idea being implemented, I can see that I was right about that.
