I have used colored china markers (grease pencils) to produce the same effect on many of my rifles. This method is pretty durable and very cheap.

I couldn't find any china markers anywhere around here so I used testors model paint. Flat white & flat red.

The technique is mostly the same. I used a tooth pick, dipped it in the paint then completely covered the marks (even the surface a little). I didn't let it dry any.
Then I took some Break-Free airesol, sprayed it onto a paper towel BUT I turned it over and used the little bit that had soaked through. One guy on ARFCOM used cleaning patches.
Then just wiped it off. The paint in the rollmarks stayed intact.
I took another p towel and wiped off the excess break free. That's all.

BTW: If you notice a little red got smeared into the letters above the "F" mark. I cleaned it off today with a little brake cleaner on a q-tip. SO, if you mess up just hose it off with Brake Parts Cleaner. Until it's dry that'll take it right off.
