Personally, I would stick with an FAL with a DSA receiver. I do not know your budget but you can get a very nice STG58 for around $1000. You could also try an Imbel Fal for around $900 but the DSA's are top notch due to their high quality machining process and QC. Check out dsarms.com or atlanticfirearms.com for details. DSA also has many accessories. I suggest the Extreme duty scope mount so you can add optics. I hope this helps.

I agree about the metal handguard getting hot. I changed them out for the Belgian type and they stayed nice and cool. One more thing, I changed out the original pistol grip for a SAW type and the ergos are much better.
