Pliers can't give enough leverage, and I already snapped a 1/8" allen wrench that I put through the slots :(
Short of buying a vice, what else should I try?

Have some one hold it down on a table, (the barrel hanging over the edge), then use your weight to your benefit and use your wrench.

No pliers please. Spray a little PS Blaster on the threads, wait 15 minutes before removal. Use the proper size wrench and if you don't have a vise use Rainleys idea. MAKE sure you are turning COUNTER CLOCKWISE. If you must, use a pipe over the wrench as a "cheater" bar for more leverage. You will probably need a new crush washer. :2cents:
