(It seems I missed the deadline for election related letters.I wanted to wait till the last minute so it was fresh on potential voting minds, but I should've checked sooner.)

just sent this to the editor of my semi-local newpaper(TAC it's the Daily News Record).Feel free to criticize.I tried to appear unaffiliated with a specific party but I'm not sure how well I pulled that off.The editor usually prints my letters so I'm pretty sure he will this one too.

Is Barack Obama really anti-gun

This year when we go to the polls to elect a new POTUS there are many important issues which we as Americans should consider. One issue which hasn't received much press is that of gun control.I don't want to delve into partisan politics, but I feel this issue has been overshadowed by other important issues such as the economy.I think however this issue deserves attention as well, because our freedom is at stake.
It has been suggested by some that Barack Obama is a friend to the second amendment.I would like to share some facts that show that assumption is quite far removed from reality.
FACT: Barack Obama voted for an Illinois State Senate bill to ban and confiscate “assault weapons,” but the bill was so poorly crafted, it would have also banned most semi-auto and single and double barrel shotguns commonly used by sportsmen. FACT: Barack Obama voted to allow reckless lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearms industry
FACT: Barack Obama wants to re-impose the failed and discredited Clinton Gun Ban
FACT: Barack Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting
FACT: Barack Obama has endorsed a 500% increase in the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition
FACT: Barack Obama has endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership.
FACT: Barack Obama supports local gun bans in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and other cities.
FACT: Barack Obama voted to uphold local gun bans and the criminal prosecution of people who use firearms in self-defense
FACT: Barack Obama supports gun owner licensing and gun registration.
FACT: Barack Obama refused to sign a friend-of-the-court Brief in support of individual Second Amendment rights in the Heller case.(first he said he supported the ban then he said he agreed with the court ruling)
FACT: Barack Obama opposes Right to Carry laws
FACT: Barack Obama voted against a measure to lower the Firearms Owners Identification card age minimum from 21 to 18, a measure designed to assist young people in the military.
FACT: Barack Obama favors a ban on standard capacity magazines.
FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory micro-stamping.
FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory waiting periods.
FACT: Barack Obama supports one-gun-a-month handgun purchase restrictions.
FACT: Barack Obama supports a ban on inexpensive handguns.
FACT: Barack Obama supports a ban on the resale of police issued firearms, even if the money is going to police departments for replacement equipment.
FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory firearm training requirements for all gun owners and a ban on gun ownership for persons under the age of 21
I cannot see how any reasonable person can look at Sen.Obamas' voting record and possibly say in good conscience how he is a friend of our second amendment rights,The record is clear, the facts are too.Barack Obama is the most anti-gun presidential candidate in history.
The flip side to this is that while Sen.John McCain's' record on the second amendment is not stellar, the alternative is a complete departure from the right of responsible firearms ownership we as Americans expect our government not to infringe upon. What is typically politician-like about Sen.Obamas' stance on gun control is that he says one thing and does something completely differant. Most politicians will say whatever they think we want to hear to get elected, that is nothing new.
What I fear would be new if Sen. Obama is elected is a sever limiting or outright extinguishing of our second amendment rights.Notice I said rights, not privileges.Rights aren't granted by the government, but are supposed to be protected by it.That was the purpose of the Bill of Rights,to enumerate and protect these rights.
Those who wish to verify these facts please go to: http://www.gunbanobama.com/Default.aspx?NavGuid=530ecfa4-ae4e-4819-97e6-892463d99f08 Everything here is footnoted so you can look up the sources. With the possibility of a democratic supermajority of the House and Senate,Anti- gun legislation will have no trouble getting passed. The decision we make on Nov 4th will no doubt have far reaching consequences.I urge you to look at the facts before you decide and please vote freedom first.

Unfornatly I dont think they will publish it

It is very well written the only thing I would have added was that if he does not limit or extinguish our second amendment rights is that he will tax the firearms and ammo to the point that no one can afford to have them

The editorial section of that paper is pretty conservative and have published many of my pro second amendment letters in the past.Unfortunately I waited to long to write it and missed the cutoff point for submissions. The former editor is no longer with the paper and knows me from my letters he has published before and maybe would have ignored the deadline. It was my fault entirely.I spoke to the editor again and he is going to try to fit it in the open forum section.
