I'm getting Old and Grumpier....

I really have to let shit go... Every time I see a Post in SigForum that has the XCR and 556 in the same
sentence I have to just resist the temptation to even look at the damn post.

I get myself so pissed off because of the F'N bullshit that is posted constantly. They usually include the standard..

I don't want a rifle I have to break in 300 rounds followed by Why do I want to Loctite a new gun and then parts fall of or shoot out because Pat Rogers said so...... Then Alex Robinson abandoned the M96 and
I don't want to get screwed when he moves on to his next project and cans the XCR.

Is it me be too sensitive ??? I am so sick of this I'm tempted to just stay out of the Combat Weapons section of Sig Forum.

Have a peak... VB jumped in... LOL

Keep it fun! Who really cares anyway? I am lovin the ARs right now. Have you planned your SBR build yet? Your Mega build is VERY NICE!

Cheers
I have to wonder if some of these people actually shoot their guns.

EVERY gun has a break in period. Parts wear in. I mean, duh.

If you're got screws and bolts, they've got a chance of loosening. You wouldn't go to the track and not safety-wire appropriate fasteners. You shouldn't go to carbine classes and not Locktite and witness mark appropriate fasteners.

All weapons have finite lifetimes. I don't like it either, but it is the way things are. Again, where have these people been the last 20 years? Colt practically abandoned their entire handgun line. Old-line HKs are gone, too. Heck, I can't buy a new Roth-Steyr! What's up with that? RA is a small concern. I'd like to see the M96 again, but the XCR is a real advancement, whereas the M96 was an homage to an interesting gun long gone. Heck, I'd still like to have one myself. The fact it's out of production wouldn't stop me if I could free up the funds. Bottom line is that if RA can only do one gun at this time, I'd rather it be the XCR than the M96. And if the XCR happens to get discontinued for some reason in the future? Ask me how I keep my AUG running...trust me, I cope.

Some people just need to sit*down, shut*up, and get a clue.

See my post on sigforum for this topic.

Small Drift

Sloan have you seen the new American AUGs coming out by MARS research? You might be able to get parts yet. I am very envious as I have always wanted an AUG. I have one on order from MARS (six months now...........) hope one day I get it.
Hell, you'd think these guys have never heard of a S&W 1006,1026,1076, or 1086.
Try to get parts for one of those, let alone the ammo.

Thanks to Mike McNett at DoubleTap Ammo, I can still shoot mine. Still, you can't go to Wal-Mart and pick up a box of ammo to shoot.

Relax... we all know you made the right choice ;)
I'm aware of the Microtech AUG and the difficulties they're having getting it out the door. There's another clone also pretty close to hitting the streets (supposedly). I'm a bit leery of clones, but if they can pull it off I can always use another source of spare parts. Mainly, I'd like a railed receiver and more barrels are never a bad thing. Bolts are still pretty easy to get, but, again, more is good.

The downside of the Microtech gun is it's about $2100. For not too much more you can get a USR. I'm not sure of what the other gun is shooting for as a price point, but I'd be surprised if it was much--if any--less.
If you've got to have 100% of internet commandos be happy with your choice of gear before you are happy with it, you are never going to be happy with it.

Statement of the day right there.

Simple fact... you want a gun that has been there and will be there, parts availabliity and all? AR15, AK47, M1A and maybe FN FAL. I'm sure there are others. But if you want what you want, then there is always a risk. I don't see 556's flying off the shelves and yes, they have their problems too. Get what you like, take it out, wear it out, and be happy you did. ;D

I just bought a 6.5 Grendel upper for precision shooting. Will it make it? Don't know. Do I like it... yep. That's all I'm worried about.

If you break it and can't find parts, be patient or buy something else.

I wouldnt worry too much about the peanut gallery over there. The XCR is the better gun. Robinson doesnt exactly do a great job of showing it is the better gun, but the fact remains that it is. Even if the Robarms vanishes tomorrow, guess what, the XCR is still the better gun and always will be.

If the XCR doesnt pan out, there is always the SCAR, the Masada, the 416.

The 556 on the other hand will always be crap for people with low expectations, furthermore a failing XCR is no validation of 556 superiority. That would be like saying Hi-point carbines are better because the XCR failed.

I would rather own an M96 than a 556 any day of the week. And I know this because I've handled and shot several Real SIG carbines. To compare the two is like saying a Hesse is in the same league as Colt. The last time I worked with a PD that uses the 552 commando, but is evaluting AR15's, they literally laughed at the idea of using a 556 instead.

Didnt come up actually. This was an all SIG department

Ignorance is bliss I guess. I've met so many cops, even some on SRT & SWAT teams who have no clue about rifles and what is good , better, best, etc. that this comes as no surprise. It wouldn't have shocked me if you said that some of them had never even heard of the 556 or XCR.

Most people I work with dont know what an XCR or 556 is, this is true. This particular department was 100% SIG firearms though, so they were fairly well versed with SIG products in general.
I think I was one of those to blame a while back when I posted "556 or XCR, that is the question!" back in July. I found that one OK?? Must have slipped by the moderator's???
