So I'm talking to this guy and I mention that I have an XCR on order. Like usual he asks "What is an XCR?" I just explain to him it is a new rifle that was developed out of the SCAR program. He then says "Oh your talking about that plastic rifle!" I laugh explain to him what the rifle really is. So we are talking more and more and he asks me why I like the XCR.

My eyes get big and I start to get gitty. I start listing off all the great aspects of the XCR. When I get to the QD barrel and explain how easy it is to swap out a barrel and change calibers. He then asked me what calibers it can be changed to. I listed them off and he made an odd face and said that anything that tries to fire the Russian x39 round just doesn't work. The upper half just can't handle it. Yes, of course I told him that the XCR can. He said that he knows what he is talking about because he was in ordinance for 30 years and he was on a team of specialists that tested out the 7.62x39 round in the M-16.

So, I try to tell him that this rifle was designed from the ground up to handle the round and any other medium round out there. Of course he was an old guy in his late 50's with his mind made up that the XCR cannot reliably fire the 7.62x39 steel round. He said that if the rounds were brass then it may do OK. Otherwise, the rifle cannot handle it.

Oh well, you can't convince them all. He also was under the impression that the H.R. 45 Blair Holt bill was attached to the stimulus bill. Of course, I thought that maybe it had. So I verified with the NRA that it had not been attached to the stimulus bill. They said if it had they would have done what they do so well. Also, they said that the fact that no else had co-sponsored the bill and it has not made it past committee, it is unlikely that it will ever become law anytime soon.

A very wise man once told me,
"ignorance is fixable,, stupid is permanent"
Chances are he was the same way when he was young.

Aw, c'mon... the guy was in "ordnance for 30 years" and "part of a test team"... he obviously knows what he is talking about!

He probably drives a Volvo and cleans his ears with his car keys too.

It's hard for some people to grasp the concept that our XCR is NOT an m16 and NOT an Ar15. I always get the line "But my AR does this..." or "I know M16s, and they don't do this..."

No duh ;)

Terra - I think the problem is people hear the "R" and immediately think "AR". People are stupid. What can we say...

You surly said that RIGHT! I am a Vietnam Vet and was exposed to the "college boys" great new weapon, the M-16. That sob got a bunch of guys killed! Not everyone is "dyed in the wool". Intelligent people keep an open mind and try to learn something new each day!

I am older than "the late fifties" and my XCR SN# is 634. I have known about this great piece of American weaponry for a long time!! So don't be expounding that "old dogs can't learn new tricks". Some of us have learned how to stay on the "cutting edge" of new technology. There will always be the "smart as---, know it alls", in EVERY AGE GROUP!

So, suck it up and go!

SINKER

LATE 50'S IS NOT OLD! :duh:

Well now lets back the bus up a minute. I have had a metric ton of people have issues getting a X39 to run in an ar. BUT the upper its self is not the problem. I have always seen it as a mag issue. So technically he is somewhat wrong but there is some truth to his concearns. He probably never figured out the real issue in ....30 years though :duh:

Oh yeah I agree that the AR may not be able to really function as a x39 gun. But the guy was telling me this since I mentioned the XCR can be made to fire 5.56 or 7.62x39 by swapping barrels. So equated this as the same thing as the AR trying to shoot the x39. I just don't think he quite grasps the concept. He is a very cool guy otherwise.

Ok, it seems like we need to make an instructional/educational DVD on the XCR rifle...
That way you can just hand em a DVD and say "Here, this shows you."

Now all I need is my rifle so that I can make this DVD ::)
