Yeah, the weight is the biggest downside to the XCR, IMO. But, that extra 1/2 pound or so of weight is redundancy in the components. Does it *need* to be there? Not sure...never modeled it in FMEA. I wouldn't want to trade any reliability for weight savings though.

I still think the -L could benefit greatly from a weight loss program; especially when the current school of thought is "lightweight, highly mobile". Speaking of which, here's an interesting anecdote on that concept (but in context of Steyr AUG).
