Loop on buttstock?

1957 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  roughneck2zero
What is that loop on the std. folding stock for? It's way too far back to use as a sling mount, the one on the back plate is OK but needs to be an oval.

Anyway, has anyone shaved off the loop on the butt-stock? Think I'm gonna do it.

cheers

It IS a sling mount. However, I wish they had a standard "slot" at the front of the stock like that thats available on the collapsable AR. What they need is a mount point thats O.K. FOLDED or (useable) LOCKED open. :2cents:
I was thinking that too. I played around with photoshop a little yesterday & here's what I am thinking. It's off my shotgun.....This one's a GG&G, but Midwest Industries makes the exact same thing.

I use the one all the way back when using a 2 point. I use the one up front for a single point.
Roughneck, THATs EXACTLY what I am talking about. Convienent whichever position the stock is in. Good show. 8)
The loop on the back-plate is ok. I use it, but I think an oval would have more versatility. Alot of single point slings I've seen have a short 1" or 1.25" webbing with a fast-tech buckle to connect the sling.
I use a single point sling with the standard folder and it works just fine. I take the sling pig tail and roll the webbing. Insert the rolled end through the sling loop and attach the buckle. An oval loop would be nice but this one works just fine for me. I shaved off the loop on the top of the but pad as it is not needed for my use.

Wuz kinda bored (and buzzed). So I shaved that loop thingy off the folding stock. Only took about 20 minutes but came out OK.
Gonna tackle making a new back plate with a bigger sling oval now...

It's for your tooth brush... part of the overnight package we offer. hehe.
Check out the loop by the hinge on this photo Alex posted of the 7.62x39... Maybe something he is working on?

Yeah I've heard about the loop under the back-plate. Good, but still not quite there. I have a machine shop and I'll play around with an aftermarket back-plate with an oval loop.

Terra, rats...if you'd told me a little sooner I'd still have a toothbrush holder! :(
and BTW thank you for all the help! ;) RA rules!!!

cheers
