MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

Like some I know, I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the MagPul UBR rifle stock:

It was said to be released in late October, early November, and I can't wait to see the finished product. Apparently it differs somewhat to the photo posted on their web site, how I don't know, and it too is a state secret. If it's anything like the rest of MagPuls products it's sure to be a winner!

I would appreciate comments, suggestions, and or thoughts on this eagerly awaited stock. As previously posted on this forum, I don't need it for any reason that is not already accomplished successfully by my CTR, I just WANT one because it's different!

Thanks for looking!

NICE!
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

I'm looking forward to it. I passed on a used M93 the other day, basically because the UBR is "just around the corner!" That and the owner really wanted too much, heh.

Still, as I shoot the XCR more, I'm coming to like the stock folder more and more. It's a pretty good stock. My only real complaint is it looks a bit dated. It's sooooo FAL, don't you know?

I'm also waiting to see what Alex has up his sleeve for the new XCR stock. Since the factory folder is working out so well, I may hold off on the Magpul (not hard with all the delays...) and see what comes out from Robinson before actually parting with cash.
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

I think Alex is going to release a fixed and fixed folding stock. It won't (at least I'm told) be a collapsible stock too.
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

I guess its just me, but I don't see why everyone has been waiting around for a year or more with baited breath for this stock. Not that I wouldn't own one, but I can't figure out what it does that other stocks don't. If someone could fill me in on what the big deal is, I would much appreciate it...

NY,

I guess when you break it down to "why" and "How" is can be summed up as: It's new, looks cool, and should be a quality product if it follows the other products from MagPul.
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

I can offer a good reason for the excitement over the UBR. Every single collapsible AR style stock I've ever shouldered grips and pulls the hairs of my beard! It hurts, people! I lean slightly forward for my cheek weld and the UBR stock removes any and all seams for shooters who do this. It's a big answer for me and I'll buy the first one that is available.
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

I'm checking with MagPul on a regular basis and I will let everyone know when it become avaiable.
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

Yes keep us informed ~ that is one fine stock. It's on my list too.

+200

that is a nice looking stock. <3
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

I'm currently waiting for a reply to "Another" enquiry for a release date. I will keep every one updated.
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

Well, I got that reply that I was waiting for from MagPul

They told me the the UBR stock will be avaliable...................... Well to use theri words:

"We are shooting for a Christmas release"
 Wooo Hooo! That will make a great Christmas present for your beloved XCR.

I will keep you all updated.

You could use an LMT SOPMOD:

There is nothing on it that could pull at facial hair... and I would know, cause I've used it plenty with facial hair. :)

If there is a seam between the stock and the buffer tube, it'll grab my hair. I've used that very stock, in fact. For whatever reason I lean into my rifles and that brings my face to rest exactly where the stocks tend to end. The only other option I've seen but not yet tried is to add a riser to my stocks. I like them on the Magpuls. I may try that, but the UBR is the best option I've seen yet.

Terra, I'd shave in a heartbeat if my wife would let me. She says I look too young if I shave...

Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

I guess I'm not understanding the mechanics here...

If you are so far forward that you are cheek-welding on the gap between the stock and buffer tube, why do you not adjust it inward to shorten the LOP?
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

I have long arms, so I need the fully extended LOP. But when I fire the rifle I hug it tight and lean into it...leaning my head forward. My cheek rests on the plastic of the stock, but right at the end of it where the seam is. There is no other reason for the UBR (that I can understand) so I can't be the only guy who leans in tight to shoot.
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

I "lean in", if by that you mean use a square, forward stance, and I've got long arms (tall lanky sort of guy), but I use the LOP length of the stock to place my face as near or far from the sights as required... I don't think I would put the LOP all the way out and they try to reach my head around it.
Re: MagPul's UBR "Utility Battle Rifle" Stock

I can't explain it, or the fact that I now have no problems using the VLTOR stock with the same configuration as the above Crane. I have no idea why, but I lay my face against the side perfectly and hum along merrily. Maybe there are sublte differences in the XCR that makes the rest of me harmonically in tune with how to cradle it...maybe Alex is a genius. For whatever reason, the VLTOR on the XCR works for me where no other collapsible on an AR has. Go figure.
