So could you shoot with the Bose? Do they have that much sound reduction?

I want the sound amplification of the MSA for shooting applications, on the range, at a match, etc. Being able to hear conversation and other non-gunshot sounds at normal volume would be very nice of course.

However, for "airplane" type applications, I'm wondering if you can input music, and turn off electronic surrounding noise pass through/amplification at the same time. So, all you would hear is then the music.

Just wondering.

No, Cant shoot with the bose, they are the headset I use when Flying. I don't think the shooting ones would work as the power would need to be on to amplify the audio In signal so you could hear it. I guess you could just turn them down but I think they would still amplify everything else.

Hmm... so I guess the real question is, are there seperate volume adjustments for outside noises and for the aux input, or is there just one "master volume". Tzoid, do you know? Thanks.. Looking forward to trying them out!

Just an update...

Ted is going to extend this buy until the end of the month and possibly the 1st week of February so if Funds are tight because of the holidays just shoot Ted an email or give him a quick call and get on the list.

He's a great guy and will work with you.

The Bose have to integrate the sound frequencies and levels over a small but finite period of time to apply the proper canceling signal. A shot would be too short in duration to be canceled, plus the volume of it would swamp the circuitry and it doesn't have the amplitude to cancel something that loud.

On an airplane, it's design environment, the constant noise from the jet engines and air flow are muted significantly but you can still hear it with the Bose. The cancelation isn't total because there's always that little bit of delay due to the integrating period.

I think I am going to jump in on this, but can anyone answer one question first? I assume on off and volume are controlled on one side only? I hope so, as I want to keep these with my patrol rifle and throw them on any time it comes out of the trunk. For this to work, I would need only one switch to turn on.

Thanks.

Beyer Dynamics has a truly nice headset for aircraft. Far and away better than anything Bose has ever actually sold (and not just marketed).

The main issue with Bose isn't so much that they're all that bad, but that they're way overpriced for what they are. In the home market, Bose cans are generally considered about on par with $50 to $75 dollar entry level cans from other manufacturers in sound quality. Then there's the matter of lack of quality of materials, but you get the picture.

Hey Guys

Don't take this the wrong way but this is for selling items and letting others know about a Great Group Buy not to have a conversation about Audio Equipment. ::)

Please start another thread if you wanna debate Bose head sets.

I appreciate some courtesy

Thanks

Sorry Tim, I digress way to easy...

Do you know if these have a switchable circuit board to use similiar to the "game ears" type stuff when you are out in the field.

So they came in today, and a couple of coworkers and I are trying them out here in the office (the pass through capabilities that is :eek:_)

These things are sweet! You adjust the volume to where you can just about totally forget that you are wearing any muffs at all.

Almost all outside sounds pass through perfectly. There are two exceptions I've noticed so far: 1) As the one wearing the muffs, when I speak, I hear my own voice louder than normal relative to other people's voices. 2) The humming from the flourecent lights is transmitted through louder than it is normally relative to other sounds. I figure this won't be any sort of factor outdoors.

I can't wait to try them out at the range! Shooting, and being able to hear things at the same time will be an entirely new experience.

Also, I played a song off my computer through the aux input. You can hear it clearly, however, there is only one volume adjustment. That is, the volume of the input relative to the ambient sounds is non-adjustable. So, they will not be useful in the airplane scenario we were discussing earlier since you can't turn down the ambient noise volume independently of the music.
