Some key differentiators of the XCR platform:
Monolithic rail
Multi-caliber capability
Operating system
Layout of controls

Things I personally like about the XCR:
Monolithic quad rail
Quick change barrel..
Bolt release position.. damn smart!
Controls in general... really well thought out...
Left side charging handle
Adjustable gas system

Things that can be improved upon:
The bolt catch rattles..
The rubber buffer... looks like it could be trouble down the road...
Lot of little bolted on parts... going to need locktite

General observations:
Stock... this rifle deserves a LOP / Cheek riser style stock.
Color should have been dark earth in the spirit of SCAR..
Lightning cut rails... prefer full cut so I can properly run Larue mounts
BUIS.. would like to see emergency style sights built-in...

Update -- just sold off my spare XCR, along with a nice 7.62 kit --- now I'm XCR'less!

Nice write up slag. I like the sights, can you do a side profile pic to show how tall they are? Do you think you could fit a magnified optic with those sights installed?

I would like to see a dramatically lower set of BUIS from Robarm that make use of the gas block mount. There really isn't a reason we need AR15 height sights on this rifle.

Holy Shit it just occurred to me Slag owns an XCR and VB doesn't !!

Slag

Make sure you post a similar thread over in Sig Forum... A few XCR haters may drive their vehicles into a brick wall when they hear you actually bought an XCR. :toast:

I'm glad you like your new Carbine.... I know I love mine.

Enjoy.

Yeah... now that is a sweet looking rifle! ;D

I believe the original SCAR spec called for a dark earth finish... I think it would have been nice for the XCR... in the spirit of SCAR... to have that as an option.. maybe down road.

The Irony huh. Now just wait till SHOT and SIG SAUER drops their SIG SPORT 550 and 551 as rumors suggest they will. Expect some lively forum dialog then.

Now where is my 10" XCR PDW

Sig Sport 550

Thats going to make the 556 look like the redheaded step child of the rifle world. Do we have any rumors on what that is going to cost?
Who knows. Its just a rumor. There was a management shake up at SIG recently, and there is the realignment with SIG Sauer which is fueling the speculation that there is a real SIG carbine in the works due to the lukewarm reception of the 556.
