Did you watch Obama's Democratic National Convention speech last night? I don't disagree with everything he says. Anyway, since this is a gun forum I'll stick to his one sentance about guns. He said (paraphraised): We can still let a hunter gather food for his family, but keep an AK47 out of the hands of a gang member in LA.

I take that to mean a ban very similiar the Clinton assault weapons ban of 1994.

I'm sure he learned a bunch from the last one though, and won't leave so many "loopholes" for the "criminals" in the next one.

Don't forget, we have Heller vs. DC on our side now. EBRs like ARs and AKs are common, and as SCOTUS opinion says "guns in common use are protected". Hell, the AR is the best selling rifle in the US right now. Even Fudd Gun Central Remington Arms as an AR in it's lineup.

If anything even came close to a ban NRA would put the smack-down in court like they are planning with Chicago and others.

The Heller case was just the start. We probably have another ten years of litigation to clear it up and get some definition. God help us if Obama wins and appoints unfriendly justices as those definitions could be really unfriendly.

Obama thinks that by banning guns he will cut crime. It won't, that tactic has never worked, in any country, at any time.

Really he wants to control the populace. It becomes the start of government over control.

He can allow hunting by banning everything except bows or black powder and technically hasn't broken his word in the speech.

Now he has won the candidacy he is going to try and woo swing voters and pissed off liberal republicans. That is what Tony Blair did in england and after ten years the country is a complete mess. Publis services are a shambles, the tax burden is at an all time high and crime is skyrocketing. The middle classes are baring the brunt. Obamas policy is to farm the middle classes by claiming that the majoirty of us in the middle class are actually rich and therefore should be taxed more. Tony did the same thing. This is history repeating itself.

I read that he isn't going to tackle the 2nd ammendment. It still allows gun ownership for hunting and self-defense, but it's really restrictive. The new proposed Gun Act: (well this is what they want, but it'll get negotiated down. I think this would hurt too much of the firearms industry.

All rifles will be bolt-action only, no semi-automatic rifles. Detachable magazines are allowed but nothing higher than 10 rounds. No caliber greater than .50 caliber. Minimum barrel length is 16".

All shotguns will be pump-action or break away double barrels. Minimum barrel length is 18". All current calibers OK.

All handguns will be revolvers only. Single or double action is OK. No detachable magazine. No capacity more than 10 rounds. No caliber greater than .50 caliber.

I don't think Obama will get away with that. The SCOTUS basically said that the 2nd ammendment allowed firearms of the type in general use at the time, that effectlvely prevents a ban on semi-auto handguns as these are currently in general use.

The problem is he is so far from reality on this and the economy that I find it hard to believe the majority of the country will actually vote for him. But, then, blair got into power in England with less than 30% of the vote as he managed to dilute the voting for the tories (Republicans) as they fought amongst themselves and right wing votes went to splinter candidates. The right has to all vote for McCain/Palin of we are screwed.

I agree with Phalanx here. Taking away our firearms is one of the easiest ways to control us. We will no longer have a affective means of fighting back.

The day after that speech I asked my local FFL to start looking
for a good AK for me.
Seems they're in short supply. Wonder why?
I always wanted one and this may be my last chance.
