The Obama administration is considering making veterans use private insurance to pay for treatment of combat and service-related injuries. I am assuming that he will want us to pay for ALL services we get thru the VA. He is trying to take away Our Hard Fought Privileges!

WRITE PRES. OBAMA, WRITE YOUR US CONGRESSMAN, WRITE YOUR TWO US SENATORS! We need a MASSIVE LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN! Tell EVERY VETERAN YOU KNOW TO WRITE THEIR PRESIDENT, US CONGRESSMAN AND THEIR TWO US SENATORS to make Our Voices heard! Make all the noise we can!

Just saw this in the news, glad somebody else saw it too! What has happened to a nation taking care of it's own? We can offer reduced tuitions for illegal aliens but we can't provide healthcare for those who have bled for our nation? Let me start a draft of a letter here.

Dear _______________,

I have recently seen the proposal to outsource healthcare for our nation's veterans and would like to address the matter head on. Our nation was founded on bloodshed for the freedom which we cherish by those who made great sacrifices. Through every generation there has been struggle and conflict but we have prevailed due to the courage, devotion and sacrifice of those who have stepped away from their loved ones, wondering if they will ever return. We have continued this fight and to this day, we have arrived on top.

Passage of this legislation would leave our hero's out to dry with the government abandoning them, leaving them to a private corporation as if they were injured in a common mishap despite their humble and honorable service. To be a veteran of the United States Armed Forces is to know what freedom truly is and is great pride for those who have served. I urge that you do not smack our vets in the face with this abomination and speak out against it for the outrage that it will be.

If anyone can add to that, please feel free to do so. I'm pissed. I'm sure any number of us know guys (or are guys/girls) who depend on the VA for their care. What's happened to our proud country?

It would be the same is if they did away with worker's compensation for the private citizen. Can you image the political back lash if they did that. It wuld be more like political suicide.

I will admit this though, Obama is good. He is one smart cat. If he can get this done, then he will be able to make the helath insurance industry look even more eval than wall street looks right now.

You see most of the Amerikan people are very, very stupid and are essentially rocks with lips. The will not remmeber that it was the government and the greta savior of the world, Obama who forced our vets pay for their own health care to treat their service connected disabilities with private health insurance which WILL run out completely in benefits very, very quickly.

Obama will then be able to point the finger at the insurance and health care industries and say "see they won't even take care of our vets. They refuse to pay for them. It is time we create a national healthcare system."

The proposal being considered (not even a proposal yet), only tries to hold private insurers accountable to veterans who are enrolled in their programs. In other words, if a veteran has private insurance (through a job or on his/her own) than than they should receive medical services from that private insurer. The situation, as it stands now, is that veterans are paying premiums to private insurance companies and then getting their health care from the VA. That means the private insurance companies are basically receiving money for no service (and it's taking money away from other veterans without private health insurance). That was the goal of the proposal. Whether the proposal is the best way to accomplish that goal is definitely debatable; the goal in itself is logically sound.

In fact, Obama has increased funding for the VA 11% in 2010. It will increase more than 25 billion in the next 5 years.

Slow your roll homey...

I AM A DISABLED VET. I have great health care. Now with that said, please try to understand what it is I am about to explain to you. Vets DO NOT get free health care from the VA except for that very "service connected" disability. I cannot go to the VA hospital for a broken leg or a severe cold. I suffer from migraines and I cannot seek treatment for them at the VA. If I tried they would laugh at me and say go see your private doctor for that. :duh:

That is what I and every other VET with private insurance pay premiums for. What about all those Vietnam vets with Agent Orange sickness that would go though the $250,000 private insurance lifetime payout? They would have no insurance real quick if their private insurance has to pay for their treatments. They would also not be able to get new private insurance since they ran out of their previous insurance.

Do you have any idea how much a prosthetic limb costs they can cost upwards of $35,000. not to mention the costs of physical therapy after one gets a limb.

Our men and women of the armed forces who are disabled because they fought for this country and lost limbs or are burned all over their body during service to this country, it is the least we as a nation can do, to take care of tose medical needs. :'(

Dude,

I never said the proposal was a good one. I said the goal of the proposal was logical. Big difference. Nothing I said contradicts the way the VA runs.

Sorry but I just get very angry when anyone (not you) messes with our service men and women.

You are correct that the VA will continue to operate as normal with regards to the way they provide health care to the vets for their service connected injuries, except that if Obama gets what he wants, the cost will not come from the VA but the private insurance carriers and the vets will eventually lose their insurance all together.

It is that very idea, that the vet has to pay for treatment of their service connected injury. Oh and by the way, if this gets passed, Vets would be looking at increased premiums too. So that is a great idea, lets make those vets who have private insurance pay for their service connected treatments with that insurance, possibly run out of insurance, and pay higher prmiums too. If owned an insurance company and I had to start paying for VA treatments, i would damn sure up the premium on ALL vets, since I would have a hard time verifying if a vet has a service connected injury. SO now all those vets will end up having to pay higher premiums.

EVERY DAMN WORD OUT OF THIS BASTARDS MOUTH IS SHIT. You thought Bush was bad... just wait.

DITTO FAN! I had a heart attack back in 2002. I had civilian health insurance at the time. They paid everything all to private hospitals and civilian doctors. Well, as you might imagine, after a few months, the insurance company started to raise my rates, when they got up to over $1400.00 per month, I had to drop them and went 100% to the VA. Now, whatever I need, the VA does for me, except eye glasses and dental. My eye exams are taken care of, I just have to buy my glasses. I have no service connected tooth problems, so no dental. Everything else the VA is taking care of....I am GRATEFUL! BUT, I have already written Obama, my two US Senators and my US Congressman! EVERYONE, every VET should do the same!! Squeeky wheels get the grease! WE have to watch this bunch like a hawk! They are some sneaky buggers! I think that they will sink to anything!
SINKER!

Whatever we may be doing, it seems to be working. I'm sure many of you saw the news this morning that it was already being declared a flop and a case of ignorance on the part of the elected official leading the country. A great deal of that was due to the immediate outrcry by the taxpayers and us vets. Granted-while he was doing that and we were all looking, other legistlation surely slipped through with the slight of a hand. :duh:

We can hope for change all that we want, but until he's out, at least we can keep on screaming!

I think perhaps him and his socialist elites are kind of poking and prodding to test the water so to speak. Let's say this and say that and leak this and leak that to see what the public say. If we say this and the public ignores it, then we know if they are ripe for the change, etc. I could be wrong but... :-\

I thought he (Obama) was about "change" and "hope", why would he do somthing like this? Oh well, I guess it's better that the illegals get free healthcare than veterans who actually did somthing to earn it.
