Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

Read the odama-bido page closely friends, for the changes are spelled out - many of which we fear - and many of which simply do not constitue common sense. You thought the last administration was bad? It appears we ain't seen nuthin' yet...

Their agenda was never hidden, (Democratic Party Platform, 2008, Page 50, "Firearms") it was ignored, even welcomed by an ever-increasing population of Americans that believe socialism is the wave of the future, all the while denying it is "socialism" out of ignorance of the word. The average person on the street doesn't even know what socialism is. They think it's another word for communism and they hate both, but couldn't tell you why to save their life.

I saw a woman on Leno (I'm not a fan, btw) that couldn't tell him who's image is on the Susan B. Anthony dollar, and when asked how much it was worth she said, "I don't know...five dollars?". These people are voting!

Well, lets see what the supreme court makes of future gun bans. What does "reasonable restrictions" mean? I gues we will find out in the next few years.

Just something to think about.... He has the economy, Iraq/Afghanistan, and a number of other problems to worry about. I will be honest I don't think the type of laws he wants to pass will happen anytime soon. In the mean time we as law abiding firearms owners should ensure we do everything we can to make sure our voice is heard. I read on another post in this forum about donating $$$ to a legal fund. Here is the next thing that is irritating me. Now everybody is make the rush to buy ammo, mags, and firearms. The prices now are going to rise and I will have to twice as harder to get the firearm I want. I have not been able to buy my XCR yet. I will have to wait until after the holidays. Ok rant over....

"During his term, President Clinton [also] used the power of executive orders to implement gun control policies. On April 6, 1998 Clinton signed an order that permanently banned the importation of more than 50 semiautomatic assault weapons.[16] In 2001 Clinton also used executive orders to ban the importation of assault pistols and tighten licensing rules on gun dealers." - Quoted from Wikipedia

Executive order is a powerful thing and requires no congressional approval. Executive powers are SUPPOSED to be used in such a way that they don't violate constitutionally protected rights, but it could be argued for years about the constitutionality of any executive order, or provision thereof.

What I am saying is that it is entirely plausible that through executive order, the President has the power to revive the now-expired AWB without congressional approval, and it could be argued that Congress, by approving the original ban, found it Constitutionally valid.

All the time it would require is however long it takes to have someone type-up the order and for the President to sign it. That can happen in a matter of hours, and take years of legal battling to undo, if ever.

Great minds think alike????? ;D You know that may be the way to go is to buy the lower first then the upper. I need to get a TAPCO stock for my SKS too...

I hoping the new adminstration will be so distracted with everything else the AWB will get lost in the shuffle and they will concentrate on what really matters to the American people.... The economy...

We'll, hope for the best plan for the worst...

I wouldn't be surprised if Pelosi & Reid already have or are working on the AWB bill. They really don't give a s**t about the economy, proof being they turned off the lights and went on vacation instead of dealing with gas prices.
If BO gets an opportunity to appoint supreme court justices then the 2nd amendment is dead for a long, long time. This is what worries me most!

There is no guarantee a receiver will be grandfathered in. :2cents: The law could be written in such a way that would prevent building them out in a banned configuration.

Order/make your SBRs now! Under the old ban you could not "build" and SBR in a banned configuration. Since it is seen as making a new weapon.

Good advice - and I'm doing several trust packages now - to include a short barrel shotgun and my second SBR build.

All of you make some really good points. The most immediate threat I would say is executive order,as was pointed out needs no Congressional approval and would be hard as hell to reverse. The Supreme Court justices are another very, very likely avenue to kill our freedom. There are 4 possible retiring justices upcoming in B.O's 4 year term.Precedent has been set regarding the second amendment individual rights case, but with a clear liberal majority all they would need is a case to be able to overturn and destroy the second amendment.
We don't need any Supreme court justices legislating the living document that is our nations foundation, out of existence. That is unacceptable, period. How can we prevent that?Damn good question.I don't think calling your congressman will cut it on that one.I don't think many Democrats would vote in a moderate, much less conservative S.C.justice.
There have been several rewrites(read much more encompassing version) of the original Clinton "crime bill".None of which they could get enough support for in Congress, but that was before last Tuesday. We loom ever so close to a supermajority that it sickens me to fathom the future of gun control initiatives. With that they will have much less trouble passing what the hard left wants.
You can bet you sweet ass they will have some kind of gun control bill on the floor within 6 months. They don't give a damn about priority of the economy,if the useless bastards did they wouldn't have let it happen to begin with. The Dem's with their clear majority can leverage to pass a bill the Republicans want. Will they cave in? Only time will tell.Is your freedom something you want to trust them with in the face of that kind of pressure?
I think registration may come first. They need a way to keep track of everything. Then private sales will be banned, because they don't want any "unregistered sales".This is basically an expansion of closing the so called "gun show loophole".Of course we all know they will never achieve total compliance, but that won't matter because if you don't comply, the weapon you don't report becomes illegal to posses, thus you can never sell it or use it to much degree without fear of being caught with it.
I know all this is pure speculation, but it all is possible under an Obama regime.Keep in mind the Aussies didn't think it would happen to them either, but when I see photos of mountains of firearms being sent to the crusher I am both enraged and deeply saddened. These were not just firearms,it's the story of people lives, their heritage, their history.
They are not mere possesions, they are grandads service rifle he brought home from the great war, they are dads old deer rifle he used to help keep us fed, uncles pistol he retired from the Border Patrol with. These objects of our affection represent not only who we are as a nation and the independent spirit that built it,but as individuals. They represent freedom, the tools of deliverance from tyranny.Even if it's just a romantic afterthought, they represent the hope that if it comes down to it,we can effect change.
Forgive my emotional rant,I love my country,as I'm sure you all do.I can't bear the thought of where it's heading,it disturbs me deeply.

Here's my grandfather's sidearm from the Spanish-American war (two Philippine tours) and possibly the great war, although I suspect he upgraded to a 1911 for that.

What's that chance I let this get melted down?
