I just got an XCR in 5.56 with the light barrel. I want to have the barrel cut down and a FSC permanently installed. On the 16" barrel the end of the barrel flares out right before the threads. If I cut the barrel down will it look funky to have the brake on there?

The shoulder is for the flash hider to have something to butt up against when it is torqued on there. If you're getting something permanently attached I don't see how it would matter much honestly, it would be aesthetics. ar15barrels.com used to turn a small section of steel and thread it to recreate that shoulder on a light barrel.

Two years ago I had my 16" light barrel cut down to 14.5" and a Phantom FH perm-attached. You do not need the flared shoulder but I have to say it DID look goofy without it. I have since registered the lower as an SBR and had Alex make a light profile 11" bbl. for me. It is now perfect.
