well i am now back from the desert.... and having dumped my first 350 rounds... because i had a few glitches i learned that reading is fundamental.... and ya dont even hafta be hooked on phonics.... ;D

first off thanks to a lot of you guys for some great info in the forums.... and thanks the the XCR people for knowing about and how to solve the minor problems that arise during the break in period....

so i used a mix of magtech and pmc 55gr fmj's. after the first 3 rounds.... yes.... i said 3.... the bolt started to lock up. it just would not return all the way to chamber the next round. checked my gas tube setting and it was at 4. i fought for the next 20 minutes or so with the bolt carrier disassembly to check for any obstructions and struggled with the forward assist... it took a few trys but i got the hang of the forward assist. so i think to myself.... hhhmmm what did they say in the forums? well this is the fundamental part. just like some of yall mentioned, adjust the gas tube.... eureka.... it was starting to work on 3.... but every 10 rounds or so, bolt lock up again.... so i went to 2.... almost 300 rounds later..... 1 stove pipe 1 misfeed that really locked up the carrier this time.... but because i read yall's stories, i didnt break out the mallet and dowell... drop the mag, hold the charging handle and tap on the ground..... worked like a charm..... :)

so overall i love my XCR.... minor glitches and all..... ive included a couple of pix to show the days fun....

pic 1 is my temp set up of my XCR and the steel plate i used at about 50 yards. the padded a frame thingy is my prone position rest...
pic 2 is a closer look at the steel plate...
pic 3 is the index card used at 25 yards to get on paper...

just a note.... i did not shoot for extreme accuracy today.... it was just a fun time to run my first 300 rounds thru my XCR.....

well done!! you give me hope ;). It's the rare man who will read to find the answer rather than just make a rash choice or start a new thread asking about issues long solved.

Glad you had a good time and listened to all our advice. Really, none of the issues you experienced are unheard of during break in. It's hard to tell when an ammo will work well initially or not. Congrats on getting your breakin over with in one day. :)

Glad you had fun and that you were able to remember some of the experiences of others...probably made your day less painfull. Now get out there and start blasting.
