Terra,

Thank you and Robinson Armament for this posting. I know it will clear up many questions members may have with NFA registered firearms.

I think the key phrase in your posting is that the Class 3 Dealer has to be in your own state to effect transfer.

Thanks again.

Thanks Terra, It is useful info, wish I would have had it a few years ago when I was just getting started. Can you clarify one thing? What is the typical length that you guys recommed for SRB? I saw on the website 12" as the smallest but when I measure enough past the gas block to mount a FH I get around 11". Any reason for 12 instead of 11"?
I would like an answer to that and the CQB upper question as well.
Once you have obtained a legal SBR ~ do you have to run around with the paperwork when you are at the range?
or
Do you just have to have it available (like in a lock box, etc) in case someone asks?
Who besides the ATF has authority in this area ~ can or would a local LE look at the gun and say "Papers Please"?
I know that the 12" only has something to do with the fact that we don't make our own barrels, so that is as short as we can go. We're hoping to be able to make all our parts in the future... in which case, a shorter barrel option would be available.
When I carry my SBR XCR I put a copy of the NFA paper work inside the front vertical grip so I always have it with me.

I am speaking to Alex as soon as I can get hold of him re the minimum length of the barrels. I would like to take mine down to 11" also. Prizm has an 11" barrel and he hasn't had any problem with it.
SBR Barrel Length

I suggest sticking with a 12" barrel. They can be cut down but we have not tested this length and do not have the time to do so right now. It will probably work. We have found that we like to have 2" plus between the gas port and the end of the barrel. We are working on a PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) upper. It would be two inches shorter allowing the gas port to 2" plus away from the muzzle.

We're going to do some testing today. If it goes well, you may see a PDW very soon. We'll post some pictures as soon as it's right.

If one is always using a suppressor, one could cut down the barrel almost right up to the gas block. This is something to consider.

Sincerely,

Alex J. Robinson

wow, I'm excited to see the pdw ;D

good point about the suppressor helping a shorter barrel. I reason that I'd like the barrel as short as possible, and once I've gotten that stuff taken care of, a suppressor isn't far behind... reports from the guys with sbr's and the quick adjust gas knob haven't reported any issues. (prizm in particular)
I am in process of SBR'ng my lower.
I was thinking I'd bug you for that 11" when you start offering it, now thinking maybe I want the PDW upper. I think the ATF agent said 90 day turn-around on my paperwork which goes out Tuesday next week.(Police Chief has Fridays off..) So I am not in a rush.

Any eta on when the PDW or 11" barrel would be available in 5.56 or 7.62?
Is the PDW multi caliber as well since it should just be shorter barrels?

ryan ::)
PDW is still futuristic. The 11" would be a faster project. ;)
dropped my 6.8 barrel off today to get it cut ;D

Like what? Another month? ;D

My demands are simple...

7.62x39 by mid April (see... I'm giving you some slack even though I already have 80 lbs of ammo. Oh, and you have my money ;) )

PDW by June... WITH new trigger. Bill does a fine job, but I want a true two stage.

XCR-M... in July WITH the new stock and trigger

McCain in November :crossedfingers:

ew, mccain? shame on you, young man. ;)
Terra
When will the 11" barrels be an option to order on the website?
Don't know if Alex will put the option on the website. Typically we do the SBR orders by phone. I'll mention it to him, though.
I guess I can call..... :)

We can meet you needs on everything but McCain in November. I hope he makes it and will take care of us. I doubt we'll be shipping the XCR-M in July but by fall it should be a reality.
PDW in 6.8...sexy
