Anybody ever shot one of these? I remember drooling over the photos of them 5-7 years ago, never got up the guts to buy one and still haven't seen one in the flesh. Always heard they were great shooters, anyone have first hand experience with them? Anyone have one they'd sell? Stewing in curiosity.

Those are nice looking rifles ,i had never seen one before.
The Bottom Rifle here is a Stoner M63 ,But the top one is an M96 ,both of these belong to a guy who worked in the Weaponieer group.
The M96 he converted to 308 ,he said it took Milling the ejection port ,beefing up springs ,removing the gas adjustment , making the mag well accept an M14 Mag .You can tell by where the gas tube is ,and you can see the ears on top of the receiver its a M96.
The stock he had made to match the M63. Some parts he had made , but over all the M96 worked out well. the first one is always the hardest , and he has built two for friends , But he said he had 1400 in it above the cost of the rifle and not including his labor.
But the next two were down to 800.

You could buy a VEPR online somewhere. Now and again you'll see one for sale pop up. Usually it is a .308 or a 5.45x39. People hold on to those 7.62s ;)

The VEPRs, as AKs go, are great rifles. They are a pleasure to shoot, but I'm not a huge AK fan. :)

Howdy Terra,
The Super Vepr I'm talking about is this one:

I'm not a big fan of AKs either, which is why I dig the look of this rifle. It has a sort of AR 180 looking fore end with an AK receiver, fluted barrel and a decent looking thumbhole stock. Never have seen one of these come up for sale on Gunsamerica, Gunbroker, Gunsinternational or in any store I've walked through. I have seen the average Veprs, but they don't float my boat at all, they sink it. Straight to the bottom with all hands.

why? the ak and the xcr have the same guts in them. the look of each gun is different, but the operating principles are the same...
