Today is Wednesday, January 30, 2008 - Aussie sent my paperwork off to the BATF for my AAC suppressor.

The clock is now ticking...

I submitted a trust on this one.

I will add that I sent off 2 form 4's on Jan 28 for SBRs, both were trusts.
I've heard that Trusts are processed fairly quickly. Plus being a fellow mountaineer cant hurt!

I bet 5 weeks... :-\
There's a thread on www.silencertalk.com that has a running list of current times.
Check was cashed on the 8th. Need to send my lowers out for engraving.
&^%$#@!

I'M WAITING PATIENTLY... ;D

C'MON BATF... PLEASE CASH MY CHECK!!!

I've completed my Form 1 for my SBR buildout - and will be sending that in this week.

I'll post an update on that when the initial submission is made, and the clock starts on that one!
Lowers were sent today, now I need to get the ball rolling on getting the barrel cut down.

aziator - can you please send mt the name/address of who you sent your lower to for engraving? I think you told me before, but I can't seem to locate the thread.

Thanks!

Email them telling them what you want engraved, what you have and where you want to engrave it. Ryan will email back with a price quote and shipping address. I haven't received mine back yet but these guys are apparently the ones to go to.

He is engraving my XCR on the right side of the receiver above the Fire Control Group pins.
Thank you very much!
No Worries. I will post pics up when I get them back.
Both Form 1's went pending yesterday so I expect to have them back approved withn 2 weeks.

Don't get too anxious just yet. Status goes to "Pending" once check is cashed. The wait lies between "pending" and "approved." Times are starting to speed up again; NFA Branch is recovering from the holiday backlog. My last transfer was 37 days mailbox-to-mailbox. I currently have an AAC Striker II (9mm, 3-lug) on transfer. This is a trust also.

Believe me, the waiting game does suck. I have 11 stamps right now, and each one required "the wait." My first few were individual signoffs, so they took longer. Hope yours goes fast.
Actually my check was cashed on 8 Feb and it went pending yesterday. I called on Monday and it wasn't pending yet then called today and it was. Checking at silencertalk and ar15 it looks like a week to 10 days after pending to be approved, then another 2 days to show up, at least what it has been recently.

Out of curiosity ... about how much does it cost to cut down and thread the barrel?

I'm about to get the XCR in 5.56 and I was thinking about buying a shorter barrel at first. After seeing that it actually costs about $400.00 for a 12" it makes me wonder if it would be worth while finding someone to do the work rather than buying one.

I will likely go with a suppressor too eventually.

Do you think that there is a worth while cost savings in relationship to the 'wait time'?

Form 1 for self-made or Form 4 for factory-registered SBR, there's still a wait.

My XCR is an early model, and I'm still running the old gas system. I had my mine cut and rethreaded approx 26 days after i got it. As far as I know, I was one of the first to go SBR (at least, only one or two others were actively posting about it on the various gunboards at the time). Because of this, there was little to no information about how they'd run.

The problem with having a barrel cut down is resizing the gas port. It was a trial-and-error method with me. I have a drill press and some knowledge of doing such work, so it became a matter of opening up the port, shooting, opening it up more, shooting again. Rinse, wash, repeat until I had consistent cycling. Add to that factor the several gas settings, and the fact that I was running suppressed.

My gas system and custom work is tailored to my individual XCR. It would not be optimal for every SBR out there. I did what I had to do to get it to run reliably with the M4-2000 that I have dedicated to it, and run reliably without. YMMV.

I understood that there would be a wait involved with the 'form 1'. I was just wondering if anyone thought it would be worth purchasing a 16" (recieve it sooner), submiting the Form 1, waiting for approval, and having it engraved/threaded/chopped to 12" (or shorter).

I was considering purchasing the 16" and having it chopped ... now I'm thinking it's worth just purchasing the SBR and waiting for it.
You can do it either way. I bought mine a few years ago and just got around to doing the Form 1 and chopping it. It is really up to you.
