My buddy and I ran our XCR's for a few days at Tactical Defense Institute in Ohio, this past July. Rond count was project at 1800 rounds but in the end I only ran about 1000 or so, since I had two guns with me. My XCR is an 11inch shorty and my buddy's is a 14.5 inch barrel with a permanent flash hider.

I had no hiccups or stoppages to note. My friend had one but said it was due to resting the gun on the magazine during prone firing. I shot both his and mine in prone, resting on the mag (Pmags) and had no issues at any time. By the way, the 11 inch barrel is very accurate. I was shooting at 200 and 300 yards with an aimpoint with no problem. Both guns shoot very accurate and run silky smooth.

Several people lined up to shoot our XCR's during some free play time. All were impressed and said basically the same thing, commenting on the smoothness, and lack of noise from that clangy AR spring, and reduced felt recoil. I shot a LaRue AR right after shooting my XCR and thought my head was going to come off with all that noise and banging. *disclaimer- I don't hate AR's, I own several so please don't start flaming*. I just happen to like the advantages that the XCR provides.

I tried to treat the gun as badly as I could without scratching or denting anything, just to see how it would run. I didn't clean it nor do I plan to anytime soon. My magpul pmags ran great but I noted some difficulty inserting mags loaded beyond 25 rounds on a closed bolt. I have since had all those mags replaced (17 of them) since the class, as they fell under the Magpul replacement program they just ran.

I shoot lefty and appreciate the ambi bolt release button and also have an ambi safety installed.

I have great confidence in the XCR and is the platform I prefer the most at this time.

Here's a couple of pics from the class.

Hey prizm,
love to hear a good report of an xcr in a rifle class. You may have already mentioned what ammo you used in your previous range reports on arf, but I was just curious what ammo you used in the class. Also, I see that this was before you put the new gas valve on, so if you take another class any time soon let us know how the rifle does with it ;D

your setup is pretty much exactly how mine is, but I need to get started on the nfa stuff for the sbr... the rifle really looks like it was made for that 11" barrel. iirc you got your barrel chopped locally? I may talk to adco or someone to see about barrel shortening and then aac for an m4-1000. That's my ultimate wishlist for my baby...

Ny- I had my friend at the shop drop in an ambi safety.

Magik- I used S&B m193 55gr. That stuff is hot and very accurate. I agree with you, it looks like it was made to be a shorty and I had a local machinist do it. He's one of the best smith's ever. He's chopped a couple of barrels for me. I'll keep you posted with more on this gas block. Next shoot I'm running it on the #1 setting.

Hope the info is helpful.

how was the magpul CTR to install? looks pretty good. been considering the UBR for the future XCR for me.
CTR was pretty easy to install. Once you have the adaptor on the XCR it's pretty straight forward. I want that UBR too, in fact it was my first choice but I needed a new stock for the TDI class and Magpul couldn't deliver. My shop actually called and tried to get an early prototype for me to use but had no luck. I contacted Magpul as well to try to get a test sample but they said they were still early on the development. I'm sure when the UBR comes out I'll have to purchase one. ;D

All right, for us newbies, what's a Blackhawk enhanced recon plate carrier?
I'm no expert on the subject but it's the chest rig that I used during the class. I got it late last year. It's a load baring vest, holds all the mags, has a cool admin pouch with a map holder, pen holders, cup holder (well maybe not a cup holder) and a bunch of other crap I may never use. It also holds a ballistic plate for when the going gets tough. It's pretty comfy and a must for long training situations.
