Went in to buy my third S&W M-15T

On 8/2/03 I Went into Champions Firearms in College Station TX. to buy my third S&W M-15T. For my luck they were out. The salesman asked me if I had read anything about the XCR. I sayed yes,do you have one? He pulled out the black beauty & the rest is history. Looking for my next bonus check to buy my second XCR.

Congratulation Texas,

You've seen the light! There will be no stopping the XCR now ;D
Re: Went in to buy my third S&W M-15T

That's funny. My other rifle is the S&W M&P15T.
Re: Went in to buy my third S&W M-15T

Mick, how do you like the S&W M&P15T compaired to the XCR? I love both guns with the edge going to the S&P because of the warrenty. (XCR-1 year) VS. (S&W- LIFETIME)
Re: Went in to buy my third S&W M-15T

Well, I think it's tough to compare them directly. However, I will give it a try.

Both are of great quality, so that's not an issue. I like the S&W M&P15T trigger better, and if I didn't I could drop in a replacement from any number of sources. The same can be said for all the parts of the S&W. There are a ton of upgrades or alternative parts available for the AR platform, so the gun is really infinitely tweakable to my likings. The only thing I've done is swap out the grip for an Ergo grip (fits my hand better). However, I also can do that on the XCR. I also put a tactical latch on the charging handle of the S&W because I have an EOTech magnifier on there that was getting in the way. The quad rail and BUIS are great on the S&W. I like the Troy BUIS so much that I put a set on my XCR. The free float foregrip is great too. I'd be hard-pressed to find much WRONG with the S&W.

That being said, I enjoy the features of the XCR that were meant to improve on the AR platform. The charging handle and the bolt release on the XCR are so much more practical than the AR. The gas piston is reliable and keeps the receiver so much cleaner. Really, the trigger and sling attachment issues on the XCR are the only things that I would improve. However, I expect the trigger to improve over time (if it doesn't, I'll get a trigger job). I also rigged up a workable solution to the sling issue. It's not pretty, but it works. If it really bothered me, I could put on any number of M4 stocks that would accomodate a sling without problem.

So, I agree that both guns are great. It's hard to pick a favorite.

If I were going strictly by accuracy, I'd have to go with the S&W. It's got a free float foregrip and a better trigger (IMO).

If I'm going strictly by shooting enjoyment, I'd lean towards the XCR. When I shoot the XCR it doesn't get as hot (well, some parts do), I don't get a mouthful of gas every time I pull the trigger, and the recoil is different (and IMO, better) than an AR.

Now, if I'm going strictly by cleaning, the XCR wins hands down.
