What ammo is most accurate in your XCR?

I use mostly 55gn but some 62gn.

So far the Fiocci 55gn is the best followed by the Black Hills Red Box 55gn.

The difference is minimal. I haven't shot anything farther that 100yds yet so maybe going farther out will make the differences more apparent.

with a 1-8 twist I have had really good luck with the radaway green ss109 stuff. It does seem a bit hot tho. have also tried the 5.56 tactical 75gr HSM load with some success. 45gr winchester varmit stuff came apart about 10 feet off the muzzle in a nice little donut shaped lead cloud. shot 500 rounds of barnaul laquer case 62gr with no probs. dont know about accuracy on that stuff, havent benched it, just used it in a training class. no failures.
55gr guatamalan shot fine and was close in accuracy to the RG. havent run any match grade stuff than the 75gr HSM which is usually mikeing out to no less than about 1.5moa regardless of gun, as it is a cannalured and crimped load.

I haven't run all that much through mine yet. Most of what I have on hand is Q3131, with a smattering of Malaysian and Soot African. The gun doesn't seem to care too much, though Q3131 shoots pretty damned well.

I have some old handloads for my AUG that I haven't tried in it yet. The AUG shot them minute of angle and they're HOT (55gr @ 3400fps from the 20"). Soon as I get a new supply of 2460 I'll probably try this load in the XCR.

I guess you could say I prefer 55gr. I haven't had much luck accuracy-wise with 62gr loads. I'm curious about the 75-77gr bullets and will probably work up some XCR loads with these when time and finances permit.

My XCR seems to really like 60 grain hornady v-max I've been running through it. I get the loaded ammo from Georgia Arms, and it's definitely pricey ($470/1000) but it shoots great. Have also shot some 75 grain Blackhills Blue box with excellent results. 55 grain Wallyworld is good plinking ammo, but not the greatest accuracy.

BTW - XCR is my new favorite rifle. 100% reliable ( so far). Well balanced. Good ergonomics. Accurate enough than I can bust clay pigeons at 100 yards with some consistency. And a ton of fun to shoot. I'm even getting used to the trigger, which has seems to have improved over the course of 3-400 rounds.

We did make some 1/8 barrels. I found absolutely no advantage to them. I shot a 1/8 and 1/9 16" barrel back to back with American Eagle 55gr. and Black Hills 77gr. The 1/9 shot both MOA. While the 1/8 shot only the 77gr MOA and the 55gr was just over MOA.

We may be able to do many twist rates in the future. We are really concentrating on barrel offerings. We can do about any length under 18.6" and under right now.

As you see from my other postings, we are also working on other calibers.

Sincerely,

Re: What ammo is most accurate in your XCR?

Thanks Alex,

With the current ammo supply such as it is, I have decided that a 1/9 barrel would indeed be in my best interest. As soon as I get the necessary paperwork arranged from my FFL, I will be placing my order. ;D

I already relieved my local Dick's Sporting Goods of their .223 stash. Anyone ever use any Ultramax 55gr soft points?
Also have some UMC on order from Buds Gun Shop.

I've had great accuracy from BH 68 gr hp bt's out of the white box. I've also shot a lot of the Federal 50 gr hp's from Walmart with good results out of my 1/8 twist barrel.

My reloads.
Amen Brother. I couldn't afford to shoot the XCR like I do (or any gun for that matter) if I couldn't sit down at my 650 and crank out 500 rounds before going to the range. I Can't imagine spending what people spend for ammo...
