I have placed 400 rounds into the XCR on gas setting 4. I have followed the manual. The manual only tells you to place the gas setting at the setting that throws the spent round 8 to 15 feet. I have read from other post, that # 2 is recommend. In the 400 round period, I have had 3 malfunctions. All from Aquila 55 grain ammo. These malfunctions were around round count # 350 on the gas setting at 4. What do you guys recommed for the gas setting for certain ammo after break in?
Thanks

When I learned the FAL, same principle, You went down in gas setting until the rifle wouldn't cycle, that upped it one setting. This is basically what you are doing with the XCR in position 2. For your rifle and ammunition, you may need to adjust up or down. This will depend on the ammo (i,e, hot ammo/reloads/etc.). :2cents: Hope this helps.

YUP!

After break-in, I lowered the gas setting to 1. Had a failure to fully eject with my Winchester white-box stuff (not the hottest ammo around). The second time I was sure I needed to bump it up - but the XCR worked on setting 1 with that ammo if it was lubed well.

On setting 2, I got a malf with that ammo about every 400 rounds. I should note though that it's the ammo!

So I bumped mine up to setting 3. I'd take out about 400 rounds in mags, and fire from the same position so I could use the tailgate of my truck as a bench on my right. Virtually all the brass would be between the rear of the front tire and about a foot in front of the front bumper - except the occasional casing that would drop within a few feet of my feet!

I verified with Alex, he said that Wolf needs to be run at 4 all the time (remember, we're talking old style gas regulator) with Winnie, Remme, etc at 3, and the only one he recommended at 2 was Federal IIRC.

Hope that helps.

I wouldn't see why not. The old gas system would only run wolf on #4 and the new one is quite happy on #1 with wolf, at least for the first 300 rounds. I would say that #2 or #3 should be a good starting point.
