Guys put that machine all together to make these on and a bunch of problems popped up. Also had an idea pop up, but have a few questions. Lug on my Charger, that engages where the forward assist usually would? So with that lug in there then there wouldn't be anywhere for a forward assist to do its job? Literally woke up one morn with an idea to make a folding forward assist.

My idea for doing adding forward assist to the folding charging handle is to turn the stationary lug into a spring button; embed a small recessed spring into the lug well and secure it with a roll pin that goes through the charging slide and a small slot on the lug that lets it move up and down. So when you pull out the folding head of the handle, the back elbow can press down on top of the lug so it can go farther and interact with the forward motion of the bolt. Hopefully I can draw a picture on what I mean in a bit.

Also, I'm sorry you are having trouble with your CNC setup and there are too many moving parts on that to know what to do to make it smooth working. Not to sound pedantic, but have you considered going to a job shop and asking to rent their working machine to make a few of your parts? It'll increase your costs for sure, but you'll have a working tool that you can use to produce all of what you need.

I know its been months, but has anything happened with these? I'd be happy to help manufacture them it thats the problem. And if no one is doing them i'd like to. If someone sends me one to see what needs done (ill make a couple for them free); or sends the plans (with dimensions) ill start producing them. Because im late to the game and i want one....

You should send a personal message to MountainMan about this, he's been designing his own charging handle but has been held back by this malfunctioning CNC machine. If you can help him with that, I'm sure everyone would appreciate it!

Yeah i saw that. I messaged him to see where it was at and if he wanted help with manufacturing but havent heard back yet, and i was hoping someone could confirm the status so i didnt step on any toes. Thats not my style. If hes not going to pursue it, I will because i want one.

Frankly, he's been delaying doing another run for quite a while and there's definite interest. In this situation, I'd say the early bird catches the worm, but that's just me.

Ok, update. We spoke for quite a while tonight. I agree with him to take a little more time and finalize the forward assist add on he almost has developed. We'll be communicating back and forth and i'll help as much as he wants but it sounds like its almost there. I cant do much for another week so we'll see how its going then.

Well guys I've finished drawing up the specs for a folding charging handle ala SLR style and I have a machinist (mountainman on the FALFiles) to make them. I'll have my sample here soon and I'll take plenty of pics. Now, they're going to be made from aluminum, because for obvious reasons we don't want a steel handle slamming closed on a aluminum receiver. In order for him to have the aluminum anodized he needs 15 or more people committed to purchasing one, or else he'll just paint them. So how about it, who would be interested in one?

ETA:

• This will be a complete unit made of 7075 aluminum, the lug will be 4140 pre-hardened steel, as will the knob.
• Price looks like it will be $73, and that's for the entire unit with anodizing and shipping included.
• I changed the design making the slide as short as possible without exposing charging handle track cut into the receiver, so it should work with ezed's adapter. Either way, there's no way to go shorter without leaving an exposed slot into the internals.

On ARs, doing a chamber check, I've 'needed' them if I wanted to do it more quietly than re-racking the charging handle. And from my understanding....that's all they were ever meant to do.

On M-16s, it’s part of clearing a malfunction as taught by the us army.

I’d hate to give up any function in any rifle. When you need it, you need it. Then it’s too late. Sounds like we won’t have to. Sweet.
